Two persons are expected to appear before the Siparia Magistrates’ Court today, after being arrested and charged for possession of 1.495 kilogrammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, during an anti-crime exercise in the South Oropouche district.

Officers of the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF), led by Cpls. George and Singh, conducted the exercise on Tuesday.

During the exercise, the officers carried out a search of a silver Nissan Note motor vehicle, which was parked along the Southern Main Road, South Oropouche, with two occupants.

The search resulted in officers discovering the drug packed into a Christmas gift bag in the vehicle.

The suspects; 41-year-old Alana Charles, a housewife of Dow Village, and 34-year-old Junior Paul, a labourer of Fyzabad, were arrested and charged in connection with the find.

The drug, which has an estimated value of $14,950, was conveyed to the Fyzabad Police Station.

Charges were laid by PC Alexis of the SWDTF.
