Two held with drugs, gun, ammunition after running stopped light

Police have arrested and charged two men for narcotics, weapon possession and ammunition offences after they ran a stop light.

Around 3 am on Friday 21st April, 2017, whilst on mobile patrol, officers attached to the Penal Police Station under Cpls Andrews and Ramlal, observed a silver Nissan Tiida breaching a traffic light along the S.S Erin Road, Penal.

The officers caused the vehicle to come to a stop and observed the two male occupants behaving suspiciously.

As a result PC Austin requested that both occupants exit the vehicle and with the assistance of the other officers conducted a physical search of both men; Marcus James, 19, and Jamal Hinds, 22.

During the search officers found a number of transparent plastic packets containing marijuana and cocaine on one of the suspects and on a search of the vehicle discovered one firearm with six rounds of .38 special ammunition.

PC Austin arrested both men and conveyed them to the Penal Police Station where they were jointly charged for possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of 12 grammes of marijuana and possession of 10.2 grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
