Two murders overnight

Po­lice are prob­ing two mur­ders which oc­curred overnight in South and North Trinidad.

In South Trinidad, a man was shot dead while seat­ed in a car at Friend­ship Vil­lage in San Fer­nan­do.

A woman who was in his com­pa­ny was al­so shot and wound­ed. His iden­ti­ty has not yet been re­vealed.

In the sec­ond dead­ly in­ci­dent, po­lice be­lieve what was sus­pect­ed to be a rob­bery in St Ann's turned out to be a mur­der when a 36-year-old man was shot mul­ti­ple times dur­ing a strug­gle.

Ac­cord­ing to a po­lice re­port at about 2 am Matthew De Sil­va of Hut­tonette Dri­ve was lim­ing with a group of friends at a house along Hut­ton Road, St Ann’s when a masked man en­tered the premis­es and an­nounced a hold-up.

De Sil­va who was con­front­ed by the armed man at­tempt­ed to over­pow­er him.

How­ev­er, dur­ing the strug­gle, the gun went off and De Sil­va was shot mul­ti­ple times about the body.

The gun­man then fled the scene.

De Sil­va was tak­en to the Port of Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he died while un­der­go­ing treat­ment.
