The British High Commission in Port of Spain says it does not know where the attorney for Dillian Johnson got information that he has been granted asylum in the United Kingdom.

The High Commission issued a statement today that all but denied that asylum was granted.

"The British High Commission in Port of Spain has seen claims made by Attorney Thalia Francis-Brooks on 11 January 2018. It is unclear where this attorney is obtaining her information, but it is obviously not from the UK authorities," the High Commission said.

Attorney Francis-Brooks was questioned several times by members of the media to state where her information was coming from but she refused.

Johnson, who is at the centre of controversy regarding claims he made as a friend of the Chief Justice, Ivor Archie, had gone to the UK seeking asylum on the basis that he felt his life was in danger.

Police are investigating a shooting incident in which Johnson was shot in early December.
