The United National Congress will begin screening for the upcoming Local Government elections on Thursday this week.

The first phase of the process will be held at the UNC’s Eastern Regional Office in Tunapuna with the screening of candidates for the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation and the Arima Borough Corporation from 3 pm.

Screening for the Tunapuna/ Piarco Regional Corporation will take place on Friday, 12th July from 3 pm at the same venue.

On Saturday, 13th July potential candidates for the Mayaro/ Rio Claro Regional Corporation and the San Fernando City Corporation will be screened at the UNC’s South Regional Office from 3 pm.

The party says the enthusiasm for positive change in governance is evidenced by the sheer number of individuals seeking to represent the UNC at the Local Government level, inclusive of a significant number of young individuals.

"This clear demonstration of support and willingness to serve, comprising of citizens representative of the full gamut of diversity in our country, clearly shows that our population views the United National Congress as the only option to take Trinidad and Tobago forward," the party said.

The People's National Movement began its screening on Saturday.
