Venezuelan national Jimmy Alejandro Tapiero Hernandez, 27, was arrested for possession of a firearm and $4.3 million in cocaine on Tuesday by officers of the Penal Criminal Investigations Department and South Western Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise.
According to police reports, officers were surveilling an area along Boleau Beach Road, Icacos Village, Cedros, when they observed a man disembark from a white boat along the shoreline with a black and grey knapsack, he then proceeded to a bushy area.
The officers intercepted the man, conducted a search and discovered ten packets of cocaine, wrapped in layers of clear and black plastic. One black and silver Taurus pistol fitted with a loaded magazine containing five rounds of .380mm ammunition were also discovered.
The exercise was coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Neville Adams and Supt. (Ag.) Robert Phillip and supervised by Sgt. Sheldon Ablacksingh, of the Cedros police district.
Charges were laid by Cpl. Clyde Harripersad, of the SWDTF.
Mr Hernandez who entered the country illegally will appear before a Point Fortin Magistrate today, charged with possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
