WASA attendant charged with murder of McDonald's manager

A 21-year-old WASA attendant appeared in court today charged with the murder of McDonald's restaurant manager Ashmeed Mohammed.

According to information from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service's Twitter account, Israel Jabari Durant of Chaconia Drive, Morvant was charged on Tuesday for the murder of Mohammed.

He was arrested at his workplace in St Helena last week Thursday by officers of the homicide bureau of investigations.

Durant faces additional charges of firearm possession, possession of ammunition and robbery with aggravation.

On May 21, three men proceeded to enter the restaurant's Cipriani Boulevard outlet after it was closed, one of the assailants subsequently shot 38-year-old Mohammed several times, before escaping in a Tiida motor car.

Police had initially suspected the murder may have been a hit as no money was taken from the restaurant's register.
