A 26-year-old Siparia woman who is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old boy was remanded into the custody of the St Anns Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation yesterday.
When brought to the Siparia Magistrates Court to answer to the four charges of sexual penetration of a minor, the accused, Rhema Vialva began acting strangely and was incoherent.
Confused by the language, first court magistrate Margaret Alert inquired from the prosecution whether an evaluation of Vialva’s mental competence would benefit the case.
Prosecutor Starr Jacob concurred and the order was made.
The charge stated that during July and August 2018, the woman was at the boy's home when on several occasions, she went into his bedroom and had sexual intercourse with him.
The incidents were reported to the police and after an investigation by the Child Protection Unit, WPC Myers arrested Vialva and subsequently charged her for the offences.
Vialva was not called upon to plead as the charges were indictable.
The matter was adjourned to January 24.
