Maricia Mclean was charged with the murder of 4-year-old Jenice Figaro.
Mclean 28 appeared before Senior Magistrate Nanette Ford John in the San Fernando first court this morning.
She was remanded in custody until February 3rd.
Her attorney Subhas Panday asked that the court write to the commissioner of prisons so that she could be protected while in custody due to what he says is pre-trial publicity.
The four-year-old died on November 25th after she was left in Mclean's care.
Mclean reportedly told the child's father that after giving her a meal of fries, the child suffered seizures and was taken to hospital where she died, but an autopsy report showed her death was due to blunt force trauma.
