Woman gets $3,000 ticket after viral video of driving up wrong side of highway

A motorist who was recorded driving recklessly in a video uploaded on social media, was today issued a fixed penalty notice in the sum of $3000 for dangerous driving.

The 58-year-old midwife of Libertville, Rio Claro, was videotaped driving a silver Nissan Tiida motor vehicle, in a northerly direction along the southbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, around 11:30 pm on Monday 16th April, 2018.

The woman told police she ‘mistakenly made a wrong turn’.

Acting under the direction of Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Basdeo Ramdhanie of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, officers were able to identify the driver and vehicle associated with the incident.

The woman was charged under Section 70A of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act Chapter 44:50.

The charge was laid Sgt. Vijay Ramdhanie, of Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch.
