The Ministry of Works and Transport has started repair work on various parts of the Uriah Butler Highway which were damaged by the weekend’s devastating flooding.
Both lanes were reopened to traffic hours ago after ministry officials determined flood waters on the southbound lane had receded sufficiently.
Police had initially only allowed SUVs and pickups to use the southbound lane during rush hour traffic this morning as there was still a little water between the Caroni Bridge and Munroe Road as well as structural damage to the roadway.
The northbound lane remained a dual carriageway during that period.
