Gang leader's son in police custody
The son of a well-known gang leader currently is in police custody.
The suspect was detained by officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) in Couva just after 9 this morning.
Senior intelligence sources told Guardian Media that police recovered one firearm and ammunition so far at a house in Sonny Ladoo Trace, Mc Bean Couva.
Police also seized more than $50,000 in cash.
The operation was driven by intelligence obtained by SORT and is ongoing.
The detained man’s father currently is in prison.

The son of a well known gang leader who is behind bars was detained by officers of the Special Operations Response Team in Couva just after 9am.

Four Held by SORT for Gang-Related Activities
Four persons were arrested on suspicion of being involved in gang related activities this morning, by officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT).
According to official police reports, at about 5:30am, SORT officers, with help from the Canine Branch, were conducting an anti-crime exercise conducted in the D’Abadie district. They were executing several search warrants were executed at different homes for illegal firearms and ammunition.
Claxton Bay Man Held with Gun and Ammo
One man was arrested and a firearm and a quantity of ammunition seized by officers of the Central Division Task Force during an anticrime exercise conducted in the Claxton Bay district, this week.
During the exercise, which was conducted between Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th December, several search warrants were executed and several drug blocks searched.
Police reports indicated that officers observed a vehicle parked along Diamond Road, Diamond Village, Claxton Bay, with a lone male occupant.
Venezuelan Arrested with Gun and Ammo
One Venezuelan national was detained by officers of the Emergency Response Patrol Unit, during an anti-crime exercise, last evening.
According to official police reports, whilst on patrol along Debe Main Road, officers PC Charles and PC Tambie had cause to search a Venezuelan national.
The officers found in his possession, one Beretta pistol with 6 rounds 9mm ammunition.
Officers seized the gun and ammunition and the suspect was arrested and taken to the Barrackpore Police Station.
Enquiries are continuing.
Officers responding to a fight chase after suspect, find loaded gun in car
Officers who responded to a fight along Independence Square South in Port of Spain on Monday morning ended up recovering a loaded gun in a vehicle after a brief chase.
According to a police report, at about 7 am, a team of officers from the Emergency Response Patrol—including Cpl Moore, WPC Orr, PCs Murray, Pierre and Bramble—were on mobile patrol when they received information from a passerby, who claimed there was a fight on Independence Square South.
Police were told that the suspect was the driver of a red Elantra.
One Arrested, Firearms & Ammo Seized in Besson Street Exercises
A 20-year-old suspect remains in police custody following several anti-crime exercises conducted in the Besson Street policing district yesterday, during which two firearms, along with over 50 rounds of ammunition, were seized.
Firearm and Ammo Haul in St James
An anti-crime exercise in the St James district last evening resulted in the seizure of two illegal firearms and 579 rounds of assorted ammunition.
The exercise was conducted by members of the Western Division Task Force.
According to official police reports, officers executed a search warrant at the unoccupied home of a deceased, suspected gang leader, at David Street, Bourne’s Road, St James.

Police concerned about modified pistol found in Central
In an Intelligence-led operation on Thursday in Enterprise, officers recovered a modified 9 mm pistol which they said can cause multiple deaths if used in an open public space.
The discovery has been described as "worrying" and as a result, police officers are asking members of the public who may have information as to the person or persons behind the weapon to contact them immediately, as they fear that there may be more like it out on the streets.
Man arrested; SORT seizes gun, ammo, cash & narcotics
One man was arrested and quantities of narcotics and cash seized by officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Eastern Division over the weekend.
Reports are that during the exercise—which was conducted on Saturday 16th November 2019—the SORT officers proceeded to an apartment at Foster Road, La Seiva, Sangre Grande, where they executed a search warrant.
