An Arima man was arrested yesterday after a quantity of ammunition and a pistol was found in the vehicle he was driving.
Police officers attached to the Arima CID noticed a Toyota Axio break a red light along the Demerara Road, Wallerfield.
The officers intercepted the vehicle and recovered a black Glock pistol, loaded with a magazine containing four rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The suspect is expected to be charged with dangerous driving, driving without a seatbelt, breach of a traffic light and disorderly behaviour.
A pistol and a quantity of ammunition were discovered by officers of the Central Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise in the Caroni district on Sunday, police said in a news release.
The exercise, conducted under the supervision of Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Inraj Balram and ASP (Ag.) Richard Smith, was conducted around 1:30 am, during which officers proceeded to Harris Street, Caroni, in the vicinity of the recreation ground.
