One month the delivering a letter to the Finance Minister in which they requested priority focus be placed on the settlement of outstanding salary negotiations to all public servants, the Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) today delivered a “gentle reminder” to Colm Imbert that 2020 may not begin as smoothly as the government is anticipating.
President General of the Oilfields Workers Trade Union Ancel Roget has been retrenched by State Owned Company Petrotrin.
Roget last week quietly received his termination letter from the company, which includes a significant benefit package.
The Trade Union leader has been working at Petrotrin for over thirty years and has kept his job at the company although he has been on secondment to the OWTU.
Roget was employed at Petrotrin’s Trinmar operations as a technician and rose up the ranks to become OWTU Branch President of the Pont Fortin based Trinmar.

Oilfield Workers Trade Union (OWTU) President-General Ancel Roget says the Joint Trade Union Movement (JTUM) is on a rapid mobilisation campaign to raise awareness and consciousness that no worker is safe in T&T.
He was speaking at JTUM's campaign for national resistance against austerity at the Banking, Insurance and General Workers Union's (BIGWU) head office in Barataria, yesterday.
Roget said “We give people a job to ensure that they maintain and increase the standard of living for everybody, but by accepting that job, they're allowing our jobs to slip away.
