Ayers-Caesar wins in Appeal Court vs former president Carmona

The Appeal Court has dismissed an appeal brought by former president Anthony Carmona in relation to former judge Marcia Ayers-Caesar, who is seeking to have her letter of resignation as a judge declared null and void.

Justice Harris had granted permission for Ayers-Caesar tp file an application for judicial review against the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLSC) and President Carmona and although the JLSC did not appeal that decision, President Carmona did via the Attorney General.

Carmona back to clarify CJ’s sabbatical

As the Anglican Church held a thanksgiving service for President-elect Paula-Mae Weekes yesterday, President Anthony Carmona was due back to deal with issues concerning Chief Justice Ivor Archie.

Weekes will be sworn in as President at 10 am next week Monday at a ceremony at the Grand Stand, Queen’s Park Savannah. She will become T&T’s sixth Head of State and the country’s first female President.

Carmona: Crime rate untenable

President Anthony Carmona yesterday expressed deep concern at the 62 murders that occurred last month, describing it as untenable and unsatisfactory.

Carmona made the statement as he handed letters of appointment to members of the Sentencing Commission Board chaired by attorney Gregory Delzin at the Office of the President, St Ann’s.

The other members are anthropologist Dr Gabrielle Hosein, psychiatric social worker Lionel Remy, attorney Daniel Khan and business consultant Joanne Murray-Charles.

Two other members will be appointed shortly.

President Carmona off to Barbados

President Anthony Carmona left the country this morning for Barbados, where he will deliver a lecture titled, "Youth and Caribbean Identity: Redefining Caribbean Pride for the 21st Century Youth", a statement by the Office of the President said. 

A statement by the President's Office said this forum is being hosted by the University of the West Indies Student Today Alumni Tomorrow organization, headed by the Office of the Vice Chancellor, UWI Cave Hill, Barbados.

The President will return on Friday 21st April, 2017.
