Two million dollars have been allocated by Government to assist corporations affected by recent flooding.
In a statement issued by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley today, the Penal / Debe Regional Corporation will receive $1 million, while Mayaro and the Barrackpore community will each receive half a million dollars.
The statement added that while assessments on the extent of damage caused by the flooding were ongoing, Government recognized the need to make funds available to provide humanitarian aid.
Cabinet will be getting a report today on the flooding situation in the Penal-Debe Regional Corporation.
This after both the ministers for Works and Transport Minister, as well as Rural Development and Local Governement, have an opportunity to liaise with their teams in the field.
Ministers Rohan Sinanan and Kazim Hosein have joined their respective teams who have been working on the ground in response to the flooding in the riverine areas of Penal Rock Road, Barrackpore and Debe.
Police are seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating 26-year-old Dwight Nicholas Williams.
Williams was last seen at his Picton Road, Monkey Town, Barrackpore home around 6:10 am on Monday.
He was reported missing to the Barrackpore Police Station on Tuesday by his mother.
Williams is of mixed descent, 5 Feet 2 inches tall, with a dark brown complexion, low haircut, and a medium built.
He also has a tattoo of a rose on his chest, across on one arm, letters on the other arm and a burnt scar on his foot.
A 31-year-old man has been arrested and two firearms and a magazine containing a quantity of ammunition have been seized, during an exercise in the Siparia district.
The suspect of St. Croix Extension, Barrackpore, was taken into custody after a search warrant executed at his home on Tuesday, resulted in the seizure of the illegal items.
Two days after she went missing, 21-year-old Shanaez Khan has been reunited with her family after being found by police staying in a house in Sangre Grande.
While her relatives are convinced that she was kidnapped and then released, police said based on investigations, Khan left home on her own free will.
It is believed she was staying by a friend whom she knew.
Khan was reported missing by her mother Sandra Khan on Wednesday.
A Barrackpore man, charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition, is expected to appear before a Princes Town Magistrate today, to answer to the charges.
Nicholas Lutchman, 28, of Ramlal Trace, Barrackpore, was arrested after a search warrant was executed at his home during an anti-crime exercise on Friday 24th August, 2018.
During the exercise, officers attached to the St. Mary’s Police Post, executed the warrant around 11:30 am.
An accident in Barrackpore has claimed the life of a man.
Police reports suggest that shortly before 8pm on Tuesday the driver of a motor car collided with a man identified as 46-year-old Roland Rampersad along Roshard Road, Barrackpore.
Upon impact the man was thrown into the air and landed several feet away from the accident.
Police pronounced the man dead on the scene.
The driver of the motor car is assisting police with investigations.
