CAL points to its safety standards ahead of acquiring new 737-800Xs

Caribbean Airlines says that while it uses Boeing 737-800 Next generation aircraft, it stands by a commitment to put the safety of its passengers, crew and staff first.

The airline issued a statement Monday morning, in light of two recent crashes involving those types of airlines, given that Caribbean Airlines is also in the process of acquiring the 737-800X for its fleet.

The airline, in its statement, extended sympathy to the families and loved ones of the passengers and employees impacted by Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302.

Caribbean Airlines aircraft involved in minor accident

Caribbean Airlines have confirmed that one of their aircraft was involved in a minor accident at the Piarco International Airport last night.

In a media release head of the communications department, Dionne Ligoure said the accident happened around 11:15 p.m.

The ATR-72 aircraft the release stated was "being taxied from the ramp  at the Piarco international airport, Trinidad, to an aircraft hangar when it came into contact with the wall of the airport terminal building."

CAL's ticketing system back up

Caribbean Airlines has advised that the problem with the Amadeus Passenger Service system, which earlier affected its reservations and online services, has been resolved.

The airline says that all services at Caribbean Airlines ticket offices, Call Centers and online, are fully restored and back to normal.

Earlier today the airline had said that the global outage had affected its ticketing, online and at ticket offices.

The cause of the outage has not been disclosed.

Global outage affecting CAL's ticketing system

Caribbean Airlines has advised that due to a global outage currently being experienced by Amadeus that is affecting all airlines using the Amadeus system, Caribbean Airlines is temporarily unable to ticket
customers at ticket offices, the call center or online.

The airline is apologising for any inconvenience caused and says it is in regular contact with Amadeus as they work to resolve this matter.

It says it will advise customers once the systems are restored to full operation. 

Caribbean Airlines lost $260M on London route

Caribbean Airlines lost more than a quarter of a billion dollars flying the London route between June 2012 and January 2016, according to Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.

Dr. Rowley was speaking in the Parliament on Wednesday evening on a motion to vest the assets of Petrotrin into three companies which will comprise the restructured entity.

In responding to the opposition’s position that it would not have shut down the state-owned refinery, Dr. Rowley referenced Caribbean Airlines’ London route.

CAL makes $48M profit; concern over 'low' Tobago ticket prices

Caribbean Airlines has reported its unaudited financial results for the nine months ended September 30, 2018, which shows the airline has moved into an operating profit and is net income positive for the year-to-date.

The unaudited accounts for the nine months to September 30, 2018 show Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT) of positive TT$96 million - this is comprised of TT$118 million on international and other operations and negative TT$22 million on the domestic air bridge.

CAL not associated with collection drive of New York restaurant

Caribbean Airlines says it has become aware of a post currently circulating on social media by an entity called “Trini Gyul Restaurant & Bar” with its address at 112-16 Liberty Ave South Richmond Hill, NY 11419, which claims that it is collecting specific items for victims of the recent flooding in Trinidad.

The post goes on to claim that Caribbean Airlines is shipping these items for free once goods are dropped off at that location.
