CAL cancels 12 more flights to Florida, The Bahamas on Friday

Caribbean Airlines has cancelled an additional 12 flights in and out of Florida and the Bahamas as a result of Hurricane Matthew.

The airline issued a statement this afternoon with the further cancellations.

The following Friday flights have been cancelled:

* BW 482 departing Piarco International Airport, Trinidad to Orlando International Airport, Orlando, Florida

* BW 485 departing Orlando International Airport to Piarco International Airport, Piarco, Trinidad

CAL cancels flights to Florida on Thursday

Caribbean Airlines has announced a further cancellation of flights to Florida this week as Hurricane Matthew approaches the state.

The airline posted the latest cancellations on its website today. 

Thousands of Caribbean nationals are travelling to Miami this week for the annual Miami Carnival.

The following is Caribbean Airlines' notice:

"Caribbean Airlines advises that due to Hurricane Matthew, the following Caribbean Airlines flights for Thursday October 6th are now cancelled:

Caribbean Airlines announces more flight cancellations due to Hurricane Matthew

Caribbean Airlines has announced it is cancelling flights on Tuesday, in addition to flights already cancelled today as Hurricane Matthew approaches he island.

The airline issued a statement today noting the following cancellations for today;

* BW 036 departing Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood International, Florida to Norman Manley International, Kingston, Jamaica

* BW 011 departing Montego Bay, Jamaica to John F. Kennedy International, New York

* BW 017 departing Norman Manley International, Kingston, Jamaica to John F.Kennedy International, New York

CAL bans use of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones on its aircraft

Caribbean Airlines has issued an advisory, banning in-flight use and charging of all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones.

This follows a recall by the company, following reports of batteries overheating and setting phones afire.

The following is Caribbean Airlines' advisory:

"Following a directive issued by the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA), effective immediately, Caribbean Airlines has enforced a ban on the in-flight use and battery charging of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, on all flights.

Guyana's main airport threatens to ban CAL flights over duty-free issue

A report in the Demerara Waves Online News says that Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) is threatening to ban Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL) from flying to and from that airport, unless it sticks to an agreement that allows Guyanese travelling to other destinations to take their duty-free purchases with them.

Woman thrown off CAL flight for unruly behaviour

A Trinidadian-born woman returning to her home in the United States, was booted off a Caribbean Airlines aircraft for being unruly on Tuesday. 

Flight BW 550 was expected to leave Piarco International Airport bound for JFK Airport at 5.30 pm. 

However, it was delayed on the runaway for an hour. 

Reports indicate that a passenger asked to be relocated to another row for more leg room, but was refused. 

The aircraft left the terminal and was preparing for take off when the woman failed to follow simple safety rules and regulations. 

Jamaican officials seek meeting with CAL, Ministry of National Security

Jamaica's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade says it notes, with concern, the reports about the alleged ill-treatment of Jamaicans who were recently denied entry to Trinidad and Tobago.

The Ministry says it has not received any formal complaint about the incident.

However, it says Jamaica’s High Commission in Trinidad has brought the media reports to the attention of the Trinidad and Tobago Immigration Department.

Caribbean Airlines flight attendant sentenced to Federal Prison

A Caribbean Airlines flight attendant has been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in a federal prison for attempting to smuggle 6.5 pounds of cocaine into the US in his spandex underwear.

40 year old Rohan Myers who resides in Jamaica was sentenced on Wednesday after pleading guilty in October to a drug smuggling charge.

Caribbean Airlines' CEO resigns with immediate effect

The Chief Executive Officer of Caribbean Airlines Limited (CAL), Michael DiLollo has resigned from the airline with immediate effect.

CAL Chairman, Phillip Marshall made the announcement in a memo issued to staff members today, saying that the board of directors has accepted the resignation.

The memo announced tha Chief Financial Officer Tyrone Tang has been appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer while a search is conducted  for a permanent replacement.
