Police Officer and Venezuelan in court for people trafficking

A  Police  Officer  and  a  Venezuelan  national  will  appear  in  the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court today, to face charges  in  connection with  trafficking  in  persons  and  other  gang-related  activities.

The men were arrested during  an  anti-crime  exercise  conducted  in  the Central Division on Monday 10th February.

The exercise was conducted by members of the Special Operations Response  Team  (SORT),  the  Counter  Trafficking  Unit,  and  a specialized  team  established  by  Commissioner  of  Police,  Gary Griffith.

Arms and ammo seized in Central Division exercise

An anti-crime exercise yesterday in Central Division has resulted in the seizure of several firearms and ammunition.

According to police reports, around 3.30 pm on Sunday, a party of officers attached to the Central Division proceeded to Union Village in Felicity near a public cemetery, where in a bushy area, they found a silver and black coloured metal object resembling a firearm.

Man killed in Couva

A man was shot and killed at Bahadoor Street in Couva, last evening.

Police say it is the first murder recorded in the Central Division for 2020.

According to reports, at approximately 6:30 pm, the man—identified as renaldo chinapoo—was shot once. 

He later died.

Investigations into this murder are ongoing.

One Killed, 3 Arrested Following Police-Involved Shooting

One man was killed and three others arrested following a report of robbery against two businesses in the Central Division yesterday morning.

According to official police reports, Officers of the Central Division Task Force, Central Division Operational Unit, Emergency Response Patrol and Chaguanas Patrol Unit, responded to  a  report  of  a  robbery  in  progress  in  the  Charlieville  district,  around 3:17 am, on Sunday 15 December 2019.

Police-involved shooting in Carapichaima

A man was killed during a police-involved shooting in Carapichaima on Thursday morning.

The victim has been identified as Devon Lewis, of Mungal Trace, Orange Field Road.

According to a police report, at about 4 am—acting on intelligence received—a team of police officers from the Central Division went to the house.

On approaching the front door, officers alleged that they were shot at from someone inside the house.

The officers returned fire, shooting Lewis several times about the body. He died on the scene.

Central Division welcomes Gary Griffith

Police Commissioner-Designate Gary Griffith is receiving support from officers of various ranks of the police service following his appointment.
According to asp Richard Smith of the central division, officers are ready and willing to work with Griffith with the common goal of reducing the country's crime rate.
ASP Richard said “We don’t know Mr Griffith personally but we have a new Commissioner and we will continue to serve the nation” 
He went on to pledge his support for Mr Griffith.

 

 

 

Teenager arrested during anti-crime exercise

Two persons were arrested during a police exercise in Chaguanas. The suspects were held in connection with the discovery of a revolver and ammunition by Central Division officers.
