$350,000 bail for woman charged with importing AK47s in barrels of dog food

A 28-year-old woman charged with importing 19 illegal firearms in a shipping barrel containing dog food has been granted $350,000 in bail.

Hafeisha Dillon, a geriatric nurse from Globe Theatre Lane, San Juan, was granted bail after she appeared before Magistrate Nanette Forde-John in the Port-of-Spain Magistrate’s Court charged under the Customs Act with importing prohibited items into T&T.

Two charged with cocaine, marijuana, gun possession

Two men are due to appear in the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court, charged with narcotics possession, after being arrested during anti-crime exercises in the Western Division over the weekend.

One pistol and magazine were also found during the exercises, which were conducted by officers of the Western Division Task Force, between 11 am on Saturday 20th May, 2017 and 1 am on Sunday 21st May, 2017.

58-year-old man charged with wasting police time after claiming he was robbed, kidnapped

A 58-year-old man who claimed he was robbed and kidnapped, has pleaded guilty of wasting police time.

Ramdeo Mathura told San Fernando CID officers on Wednesday, he was kidnapped, and robbed of cash, cell phone and his wallet.

He reported he was then kept in a room for one day before escaping yesterday afternoon.

Mathura says he owns a business place at Nicholas towers and was conducting business in the southern city when he was taken captive by two men.

Two charged with gun possession in Vistabella

Two Vistabella men are expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate, charged with possession of firearms and ammunition, following an anti-crime exercise in the Southern Division.

Officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force, acting on information received, conducted the exercise on Monday 24th April, 2017, at Olera Heights Drive, Vistabella.

There, they searched a Hyundai Accent vehicle and arrested and charged the driver, Nazir Mohammed, 32, of Jarvis Street, Vistabella, for being in possession of one Maverick shotgun.

Coast Guard officers charged with drunk driving

Two Coast guardsmen are among 99 people held during police exercises over the Easter holiday weekend in the Southern Division.

The coast guardsmen were held in separate exercises, both for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol. A report stated that on Saturday, PC Ramsaran and other officers were carrying out a breathalyser exercise at Cross Crossing, San Fernando. Around 3.15 am, they stopped a vehicle that was playing music loudly. The occupant, a coast guardsman from Chatham, reportedly attacked the officers after being asked to step out of the vehicle.

23-year-old Tobago man charged with robbery with violence

A 23-year-old man appeared in the Scarborough Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday 5th April, 2017, charged with robbery with violence.

Okira Holder, 23, of Bacolet, Scarborough, was arrested and charged on Monday 3rd April, 2017, for robbery with violence, against 37-year-old Kirby Clement.

The charge was laid by WPC Marcelle.

Clement was beaten and robbed of his vehicle, a cellular phone and a quantity of cash, by four men, in Mason Hall, on Monday 27th March, 2017. 

The matter was postponed to Wednesday 3rd May, 2017. 

Police officer charged after posting video that exposed prisoner's genitals

A police officer attached to the Court and Process Branch of the Tobago Division, has appeared before a Scarborough Magistrate, charged with malicious publication of defamatory libel, contrary to Section 8 of the Libel and Defamation Act Chapter 11:16. 

PC Javaugh Ballington was charged by officers of the Professional Standards Bureau, on Tuesday 21st March, 2017, following investigations into the publication of a video on social media, depicting a prisoner being medically examined with his genitals exposed.

22-year-old man charged with murder of 72-year-old Arima woman

A 22-year-old man of Block 22 Laventille and KP Lands Valencia appeared before an Arima Magistrate Court today charged with the murder of an elderly woman which occurred sometime between January 27th and 28th, 2017.

Cynthia Matthews, 72, who held dual citizenship to the United States and Trinidad and Tobago, was found dead at her home located at Circular Road, Arima, with multiple stab wounds about the body.

Tobago police officer charged with rape

A 21-year-old Tobago police constable has been arrest charged with rape.

According to reports, around 10:55 pm on Monday 27th February 2017, the 27-year-old victim was at Renaissance Roxborough when she made prior arrangement with a man whom she knows as a police officer to take her to her home.

However, on arrival to her home, the man then requested to enter her apartment to take a rest.

The woman obliged but according to reports, the man then lifted her bodily, placed her on her bed and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

25-year-old Sangre Grande man charged with murder

A 25-year-old labourer appeared before the Sangre Grande 1st Magistrate’s Court today charged with the murder of a man, whose remains had to be exhumed from a gravel pit, at Pine Road, Vega de Oropouche, Sangre Grande, one year ago. 

Ricardo James, aka Doodie, appeared before Senior Magistrate Debra Quintyne, for the murder of Donald Javel Pierre, who had been reported missing on January 20th, 2016.

The victim’s body was subsequently found buried in a hole 20 feet deep, on February 29th, 2016.
