Chutney Soca Final back at Skinner Park

Southex has announced that it has been able to reach an agreement with the Mayor of San Fernando, the City Council and by extension the San Fernando City Corporation for the rental of Skinner Park San Fernando for the Chutney Soca Monarch Final.

It says in a statement that the finals will now be retained at Skinner Park, San Fernando, its home for 22 years.

The final takes place on Saturday 27th January.

NCFTT president says he never called for Gosein's song to be banned from competition

President of the National Chutney Foundation (NCFTT) Dr Vijay Ramlal Rai says his comments in relation to Massive Gosein's songs had nothing to do with the Chutney Soca competition.

Dr Rai says he is not in support of lyrics that degrade women in general.

The following is a statement issued by the NCFTT president today:

"I have read in today's Express 28/12/17 page 5 article indicating that I have said that Gosein should be banned from respective competitions.

Southex CEO: Chutney Soca Monarch $1 million short of target

Southex CEO, George Singh, says contrary to popular opinion, the Chutney Soca Monarch is not a money-making enterprise and has not made a profit in four years.

Singh says last year the Nationa Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) contributed $1.5 million to the competition but this year the allocation is less than half of that.

With the finals set for January 27th, 2018, Singh says he is around $1 million short of the intended budget to put on a good show.

There are no cash sponsors on board other than the NLCB at this time.

Ravi B, Omardath Maharaj tie for first in Chutney Soca Monarch competition

Soca chutney artistes Ravi B and Omardath Maharaj are joint winners of this year's Chutney Soca Monarch.

The event was held at Skinner Park in San Fernando Saturday night and both artistes were expected to place in the top three.

However, in the end the judges were unable to seperate Ravi B's "Budget" from Maharaj's "Ramsingh Sharma" and announced a tie.

Defending champion Kris "KI" Persad placed third.

Chris Garcia took 1st place in the Ultimate Chutney Challenge followed by Rikki Jai.
