Ex-coach loses rape appeal, to complete 17-year term

A 65-year-old net­ball coach has lost his ap­peal which chal­lenged his con­vic­tion of rap­ing a woman who once played on a net­ball team.

De­liv­er­ing a 48-page judge­ment at the Hall of Jus­tice in Port-of-Spain­on Wednes­day, three Ap­pel­late Judges dis­missed all six com­plaints raised by the man, a for­mer po­lice of­fi­cer, of Ch­agua­nas. They al­so af­firmed the 17-year sen­tence he re­ceived when he was con­vict­ed.

His iden­ti­ty has been with­held by this news­pa­per to pro­tect the vic­tim.
