Officers conducted the exercise on Sunday during which they proceeded to a bushy area at St. Charles Road, Princes Town, where they found a makeshift camp occupied by one man.
Illegal quarry operators have started mining inside the State-owned pine fields of Valencia, leaving behind open pits as deep as 20 feet.
Forestry workers who have been toiling in the pine field forests off Mora Trace, Valencia came upon the pits yesterday.
Expressing disgust with illegal mining, one worker said, “This is a hazard because there are contractors and other operators who work in the pine field.

However, police have since confirmed that the victim has been identified as a Venezuelan national who was standing near the gyro vendor's stall.
The shooting incident sent bystanders scampering to safety.

According to police reports during the exercise, officers had cause to stop and search a man who was walking along Pipiol Road, Santa Cruz.
The search resulted in officers finding one Smith and Wesson revolver containing four rounds of ammunition and a quantity of marijuana in his possession.
Naresh "Venesh" Basant, 40, of Charlieville was lured to his death under the pretence that someone needed him to do a job estimate for a roof at Korea Village in Carapichaima.
More than a week ago, Basant began to get calls on his cellphone. The female voice kept asking him if he can do a roofing job for her.
But when Basant did manage to find the time and go to the site at Jagbir Street he was instead gunned down. He was shot 12 times about the body believed to be by a high-powered rifle shortly after 6 pm on Monday.
