Moruga man charged with murder

A Moruga man is expected to appear before a Couva Magistrate today, charged with the murder of Aaron Kim Goorachan, which occurred on Thursday 21st September, 2017.

Michael George, 29, of Indian Walk, Moruga, was charged with murder, after advice was received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC, on Saturday 21st, October, 2017.

Goorachan, 24, a medical attendant, of Claxton Bay, was shot in the back multiple times, by a gunman, on Thursday 21st September, 2017, in the vicinity of the Couva Extended Care Centre, where he worked.

Police destroy $680,000 in marijuana

Marijuana valued at approximately $680,000 and a camp were destroyed by officers of the Southern Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise in the Moruga district on Tuesday, police said in a statement today.

The exercise, which included officers of the Moruga Police Station, was conducted between 3 pm and 7 pm, on Tuesday 17th October, 2017.

During the exercise, officers went to a forested area in Marac Village, Moruga, where they discovered a marijuana camp, with three male occupants.

Upon seeing the officers, the men ran off.

Three arrested with pistol, ammo in Southern Division

Three men were arrested and a pistol and a quantity of ammunition seized during an anti-crime exercise in the Southern Division on Tuesday, police said in a news statement.

Officers conducted the exercise between 12 pm and 6 pm, on Tuesday 17th October, 2017, during which several drug blocks in the district were searched.

Three men; a 22-year-old of Pleasantville, a 26-year-old of Cocoyea Village and a 23-year-old of Tarodale, were arrested for being in possession of one Pietro Beretta pistol and a magazine containing five rounds of 9mm ammunition.

NCRHA probes assault of doctor at Arouca Health Centre

The North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA) says it is currently investigating an incident that occurred at the Arouca Health Centre yesterday afternoon, where a doctor was allegedly assaulted by an irate patient.
 
According to initial reports, the doctor was on duty at the Arouca Health Centre providing care to a patient affected by acute conjunctivitis (red eye) when around 6:30pm a female patient from the public waiting area, allegedly barged into the consultation room and assaulted the doctor with an umbrella and her fists.
 

Grandson charged with murder of man found stuff in barrel

A Freeport man has appeared before a Couva Magistrate, charged with the murder of his grandfather, Irving Mings, whose body was found stuffed in a barrel at his home.

Michael Mings, 26, a musician, of Calcutta Road, #2 Freeport, appeared before Senior Magistrate Siumongal Ramsaran in the Couva Magistrates’ Court today to answer to the charge.

The matter was adjourned to Monday 13th November, 2017.

Mings, 87, a pensioner, also of Calcutta Road, #2 Freeport, was found dead inside a barrel at his home on Friday 6th October, 2017.

Five arrested for kidnapping Venezuelan businessman

Five men have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a Venezuelan businessman.

The businessman, Jason Guerra was kidnapped last Saturday and found in Carapo days later. He was badly beaten and had to seek medical attention.

However CNC3 understands police arrested 5 men from the Carapo area for the crime.

The arrests were done in a police exercise headed by Senior Superintendent Ajith Persad and co-ordinated by DCP Harold Phillip.

One of the men detained is 17 years old.

Two held after crashing into Jimmy Aboud's textile store in high-speed police chase

Two men are currently detained at the Port-of-Spain CID after trying to escape police and crashing into a textile store in Port-of-Spain.

Police tell CNC3 that during the early hours of this morning there was a brawl along Ariapita Avenue.

Concerned Woodbrook residents called the police.

As officers arrived on the scene, the rowdy group attempted to disperse.

Two men jumped into a white SUV and reportedly reversed on one of the police vehicles responding to the incident and sped off.

Laventille man shot dead by police

A 27-year-old Laventille man died after being shot by police on Thursday morning.

Around 5am, police responded to reports of gunmen at Reyes Street off Wharton Street in Laventille.

On arriving at the scene, one man opened fire on the police resulting in a shootout.

The man, identified as Keston Ingles also known as "Great White", was shot.

He was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ingles was a known by police as a firearm offender.

He was shot not far from where he lived.

Two killed in Laventille

Two men have been killed in separate areas in Laventille. One of the victims is a 19-year-old man.

According to reports, residents of Chinnapoo were walking on the roadway around 6 this morning when they stumbled upon the body of a man. Police suspect the man was shot.

And in another part of Laventille, the body of 19-year-old Leroy Isaac was discovered with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Police say Isaac from Prizgar Lands was found dead at the back of Success Laventille.
