St. Ann's escapee IDC resident charged with firearm and ammunition offences

Immigration Detention Centre resident, Grenadian Rayan Bowen, 25, who escaped from the facility on July 10 was recaptured and charged with firearm and ammunition offences. 

However, the magistrate during his court appearance earlier this month was sent to the St Ann's Mental Hospital for evaluation after he was found "acting up" in court.

After two weeks at the institution, Bowen escaped some time on Thursday night.

It is believed that Bowen used a hacksaw blade to cut the bars to the Ward he was warded at.

Murder victim was no "badboy"

Relatives of murder victim Andy Ragoobir are insisting that he was no "bad boy."

Ragoobir, 30, the father of one was shot several times on Wednesday night near his home at El Chorro, Maracas/St Joseph.

According to his relatives, who wished not to be named, Ragoobir kept to himself and would not speak of anything to anyone of them.

"It is so unfortunate. Because we don’t know why this happen.

Man charged with three counts of making counterfeit money

One man was arrested, for making counterfeit currency, by officers of the Arouca Criminal Investigation Department, with the assistance of officers of the Fraud Squad.

Acting on information received, officers conducted enquires and formally charged Aaron John for three counts of making counterfeit currency under section 29 (1) of the Central Bank Act Chapter 79:02.

He is expected to appear at the Arima Magistrate Court today.

High powered rifle, ammo and drugs seized during police exercise

A high powered rifle, ammunition and a quantity of marijuana were seized during an anti-crime exercise yesterday.

CNC3 news understands that officers of the North Eastern division task force, acting on information, proceeded to a house in second Caledonia, Morvant.

On entering the premises the officers observed a man fleeing in some nearby bushes.

The officers gave chase however the man escaped while combing the area they discovered the man had dropped an Uzi submachine gun loaded with 16 rounds of ammunition.

One dead, another injured following altercation

One man is dead and another is warded at the hospital following a chopping altercation in Toco.

According to reports, around 11:30 last evening a 36-year-old man observed two men allegedly trespassing on his property along Basin road, San Souci.

The homeowner is said to have picked up a cutlass and accosted the men.

An altercation ensued and the trespassers were dealt several blows about their bodies.

A 29-year-old man's hand was reportedly chopped off in the incident while the other man was chopped in the head.

Man shot and killed in Maracas

A 29-year-old man has been shot and killed in Maracas, St Joseph.

According to police information, shortly after 8:30 last evening residents of El Chorro road heard several loud explosions.

The police were contacted and on arrival, proceeded to an area where they discovered the body of a man lying in a pool of blood.

His body bore several gunshot wounds.

The victim has been identified as Andy Ragoobir.

Investigations into the man's killing are ongoing.
