Man chopped while resting at his Caroni home

A man was chopped by a close male relative while resting at his home in Kelly Village in Caroni on Tuesday afternoon.

According to information reaching the Guardian Media, the victim was asleep in his bedroom when at about 3.10 pm his close male relative leaned into his room and began chopping him.

The victim got up and attempted to run away but his relative kept pelting chops at him with a cutlass.

The victim eventually locked himself in a room of the house.

The relative then escaped.

Two shootings are currently engaging police attention

There were two shooting incidents on Wednesday in Arouca and Arima.

In Arouca, Colin Balchan, of Spring Extension, Five Rivers, Arouca, was shot at least three times to the chest by an unknown gunman.

At about 10.30 pm he was walking on the road when he was approached by the gunman who shot him and then escaped. 

One live round and three spent shells of 9 mm ammunition were recovered on the scene.

Balchan was taken to the hospital for medical treatment and is currently warded in a critical condition.

Five held during anti-crime exercise

Three Venezuelan men are among five suspects arrested for possession of a quantity of marijuana, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Northern Division, yesterday.

The exercise, conducted on Tuesday included officers of the Northern Division Gang Unit, Northern Division Special Investigations Unit and Northern Division Task Force, Areas East, Central and West.

Acting on information, the officers had cause to stop and search a motor vehicle with three male occupants which was proceeding along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway in the vicinity of Mausica Road.

Las Lomas man to appear in court charged with murder

A 19-year-old Las Lomas man is expected to appear before a Chaguanas Magistrate Court today, charged with the murder of Alistra Kampo, which occurred on August 24th.

Michael Josep, of Las Lomas No. 1, was also charged with the common assault of Alistra Kampo, and the attempted murder of Rodha Mack, following advice received from the Assistant Director of Public Prosecution George Busby on August 30th.

Ms. Alistra Kampo, 39, also known as Roxanne, died after sustaining multiple stab wounds about her body at her Chin Chin Road, Las Lomas home.

Police search for alleged murder suspect

Police are currently searching for a man who allegedly chopped a female relative to death this morning.

CNC3 news understands that around 5:30 am, Selene Sankar got into an argument with a man at her La Brea trace, Siparia home.

It is believed that the argument escalated and the man picked up a cutlass and chopped  Sankar several times about the body.

The police were contacted and on arrival discovered Sankar's lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, her nine-year-old son was found at the scene.

Two murdered in Chaguanas, Maloney

Two murders have been recorded in the past 15 hours in Chaguanas and Maloney.

A woman was also shot and wounded in St Margaret's Village, Claxton Bay.

In Maloney, at about 6.30 am on Thursday Daniel "Pitchman" Herrera was found at Semp Avenue in Maloney. He was fatally shot several times. Police officers are currently on the scene.

In Chaguanas, Russel Chaitram, 24, of Enterprise was at the corner of Joyce and Perseverence Roads in Chandanagore Village, Chaguanas at about 7.39 pm when he was ambushed by two gunmen and shot several times.

The Trinidad and Tobago Association of Psychologists supports decriminalisation of marijuana

The Trinidad and Tobago Association of Psychologists (TTAP) has thrown its support behind the decriminalisation of marijuana.

TTAP said after weighing all the factors including Imprisonment of someone for small quantities of marijuana  only creates a "great deal of social displacement, financial hardship, career interruptions and family dislocations."

TTAP quoted a 2019 CNC3 report which said there were over 80-thousand marijuana-related matters in the magistrate’s courts over the last eleven years.

Police believe body found on Foreshore was dumped there

Police are investigating the discovery of a man's body found on the Foreshore Monday morning.

The body bore a bullet wound to the head.

Police say the body was found around 4.15 am near the helipad.

It is of an African male, brown in complexion, approximately 5' 11'' tall, about 160 pounds.

The body bore a  Rasta hairstyle and was clad in brown pants and black jersey.

Police believe he was murdered and dumped there.

The identity of the man has not as yet been released.
