The People's National Movement's (PNM's) Women's League has applauded the prime minister for the way in which he handled the dismissal of Sports Minister Darryl Smith.
The Women's League issued the following statement Tuesday night.
"The Women’s League of the People’s National Movement has taken note of the Prime Minister’s decision to revoke the Ministerial appointment of Diego Martin Central MP, Darryl Smith, after reviewing additional evidence presented to him today.
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar is calling on the prime minister to reveal what new information he got that led him to dismiss Minister Darryl Smith.
Persad-Bissessar says the prime minister should have dismissed Smith before.
She issued the following statement on Tuesday:
"Four days ago Keith Rowley had confidence in every member of his Cabinet and one day ago he still had confidence in Darryl Smith despite the swirl of allegations of sexual harassment, misconduct and incompetence reported in the national media.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has fired former Sports Minister Darryl Smith, who, just yesterday, was demoted to the position of Minister in the Ministry of Housing.
