“Molly” which is a new addictive drug has hit the nation’s schools and officials of the Ministry of Education are currently “scrambling” to get more on it and its effects so that they can deal with the frightening issue.
The news of the drug was only brought to the attention of the ministry’s manager of the Student Support Services Division (SSSD), Professor Dennis Conrad yesterday morning. Conrad said the drug seems to be so effective for the children that it seems to be the preferred choice of a drug over “herb-like substances.”
A truck driver has been ordered to pay a $12,000 fine forthwith after he admitted to having 671 grammes of marijuana in his possession.
Shivanand Samaroo, 28, of Bayshore, Marabella, will be jailed for 24 months if he fails to pay the money immediately.
Samaroo pleaded guilty when he appeared before San Fernando Senior Magistrate Alicia Chankar in the First Court.
He was convicted for a similar offence two years ago.
Over $6.5 million worth in marijuana trees discovered in a camp in the Moruga district have been destroyed by officers of the South Western Division.
The exercise which was supervised by Sgt. Seepersad, took place on Tuesday.
The exercise included officers attached to the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit.
During the exercise, officers proceeded into hilly area off La Lune Road, Moruga, where they discovered a camp containing 6500 fully grown marijuana trees, 2500 seedlings and seven pounds of cured marijuana.
Police seized a pistol, a quantity of ammunition and illegal drugs during a raid in the La Horquetta district on Tuesday.
According to officers, a 9mm Italian-made pistol along with a magazine of 11 rounds of 9mm pistol, 50 rounds of 40 calibre hollow point ammunition, 60 grammes of cocaine, 1,300 grammes of marijuana and a bullet-proof vest were found.

According to police reports, a party of officers, supervised by Sgt. Prakash Jaggernath, were on surveillance duty along Villabrera Street, Siparia, on December 24th when they observed a silver BMW motor vehicle with two occupants.
The officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, which came to a sudden stop and began reversing at high speed.
