New unit for Police Service to address crimes against children

National Security Minister Brigadier (Ret) Edmund Dillon has announced the creation of a Child Protection Unit in the Police Service and the Attorney General says his Ministry will back it up with proper legislation.

Addressing today's post-Cabinet media conference, Minister Dillon noted that in recent times there has been an increase in incidences of crime against children.

He said that against that background, the Commissioner of Police felt that a dedicated and focused entity within the Police Service was necessary to deal with crimes committed against children.
