Granny pleads guilty to stealing ice cream, soap, toothpaste

A 71-year-old woman who spent two nights at the police station after she was caught stealing ice cream, dahi and other items from a grocery was given a chance yesterday.

Taking into consideration her age and that it was her first arrest, San Fernando magistrate Alicia Chankar reprimanded and discharged the elderly woman.

Deokie Samlalsingh, of La Romaine, went to MS Food City at SS Erin Road, Debe, on Saturday where she stole $261.65 worth of items.

Granny begs police to find grandchildren

Blind grandmother Bhagwanie Sookoo yesterday begged the public to help find her daughter and three grandchildren who went missing on Saturday.

She said she was disappointed that the police were not out searching for Veronica Young and her daughters.

Sookoo, of Mohess Road, Penal, who assists in caring for Young’s children said she has not been able to eat or sleep since the family, Vanessa, 10, Marisha, seven, and Calissa, two, went missing along with their mother.

Grandmother murdered in Guaracara

Police are investigating the murder of a 74-year-old pensioner whose nude body was found with her head bashed in on Thursday evening. 

Reports are that Kent Baboolal went to his mother-in-law's home at Farnum Village, Guaracara around 6 pm and found the body of Zorida Ali . 

Ali lying motionless in a drain with a concrete brick on her chest

Gasparillo police and Region III Homicide Bureau detectives went to the scene and investigators believe that someone struck her with the brick.
