A pistol and ammunition stashed away in a mangrove swamp were dug up by police officers yesterday.
The discovery was made during an anti-crime exercise in the Oropouche area.
According to reports, officers of the Oropouche police station received a tip-off which led them to a mangrove swamp, just off Otaheite bay, South Oropouche.
The search resulted in one Smith and Wesson pistol along with five rounds of ammunition being discovered.
Four persons were arrested and a pistol and a quantity of ammunition seized after police intercepted two vehicles proceeding along Race Course Road, Carapo over the weekend, a police statement said.
Cpl (Ag.) Justin Durity, in company with PC Andre Modeste and PC Keron George of the La Horquetta Police Station were on mobile patrol around 9:45 pm on Saturday 11th November, 2017, when they observed the occupants of two vehicles - a silver Nissan Tiida and a white Nissan AD wagon - travelling in a northerly direction.
One man was arrested and a pistol and a quantity of marijuana were seized by officers of the San Juan CID, during an anti-crime exercise in the San Juan District over the weekend, police said in a statement.

The InterAgency Task Force discovered a Smith and Wesson revolver during an anti-crime exercise in the Port of Spain district yesterday, police said in a statement.
Officers conducted the exercise around 8:30 pm, on Monday 6th November, 2017, during which they proceeded to Monsegue and Quarry Street, East Dry River, Port of Spain, where they observed three men standing along the roadway.
Upon seeing the officers, the men ran off.
A search of the area where the men were standing, resulted in the firearm being found inside in a yellow plastic bag.

A pistol and a quantity of ammunition were discovered by officers of the South Western Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise in the Penal district, over the weekend.
Police seized a silver and black revolver and two rounds of .38mm ammunition.
Officers during an anti-crime exercise in Point Fortin discovered the gun and ammunition hidden in a metal pipe.
Police said they were tipped off and went to Dam Bank Road, Egypt Village, Point Fortin, around 1:00 pm and found the loaded gun in a bushy area.
No one was arrested.
A pistol and a quantity of ammunition were discovered by officers of the Valencia Police Station, during anti-crime exercises in the area yesterday.
The exercises were conducted between 8:45am and 2:20pm, on Tuesday 10th October, 2017, under the supervision of Sgt. Chris Edwards, and included officers of the Eastern Division Task Force, Valencia CID and Crime Patrol Unit.
Two men were arrested and a revolver seized by officers of the Northern Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise in the Tunapuna area, last night.

The exercise was conducted between 12 pm and 11 pm, on Monday 9th October, 2017, in the Champ Fleurs district, under the supervision of Sgt. Ishmael Pitt.
Acting on information received, officers proceeded to Mt. Hope Road, Champ Fleurs, where they conducted a search of an abandoned lot and discovered the chrome and brown pistol along with 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition, wrapped in blue and pink baby clothing.

In the exercise, which involved the Canine Unit and carried out between 12:45 pm and 7 pm on Thursday 5th October, 2017, officers also seized quantities of ammunition and marijuana.
The officers had cause to stop and search a 17-year-old teenager of Aranguez.
The search resulted in one Taurus pistol along with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition being found and seized.
