Haiti has announced six days of official mourning for the late former president Rene Preval, who died last weekend at his home of a cerebral vascular accident (CVA) or stroke.
A CVA is the sudden death of some brain cells due to lack of oxygen when the blood flow to the brain is impaired by blockage or rupture of an artery to the brain. Symptoms of a stroke depend on the area of the brain affected.
A shipment of supplies to the people of Haiti that came out of a drive by the San Fernando Mayor, is now on its way to the impoverished country.
The Mayor's Office issued a statement today giving details of the shipment:
"The first shipment for the Help 4 Haiti Charity Drive spearheaded by His Worship the Mayor Alderman Haji Kazim Hosein left San Fernando this afternoon and will arrive in Haiti within eight days. The containers exited the city in a convoy via Cipero Street and were headed for the port at Point Lisas. They will be shipped on the MAERSK shipping line.
