It's official. Three teams will go up against Kelvin Charles, current political leader of the Tobago Council of the People's National Movement (PNM), in Sunday's runoff elections.
In a statement on Friday, Team Tracy 2020 said it is part of a group that includes Joel Jack and Dr. Denise Tsoaifatt-Angus—fighting to change the council's leadership.
"After consultation, and for this point onward Joel Jack, Dr Angus and I have decided we will work together in the best interests of the party," the Davidson-Celestine team said.
Dr. Denise Tsoiatfatt-Angus resigned from her position as Presiding Officer of the Tobago House of Assembly on Thursday.
Her resignation letter to the Assembly’s Legislature Clerk was leaked on social media before her 1:30 pm official announcement to the media.
Sources say Tsoiatfatt-Angus is making way to contest the position of the political leader of the People's National Movement (PNM) Tobago Council internal elections.
Chief Secretary Kelvin Charles made a similar move in January 2016, when he resigned as the Assembly's presiding officer.
The final list for the UNC Internal Election has been completed and submitted to all relevant parties.
A statement from the UNC's Election Management Committee says that its members have completed their exercise and have forwarded the final UNC membership list to the chairman of the Management Committee.
It says that the Committee has since made copies of the final membership list and has made them available to all relevant parties.
It says that the agents accepting the final membership list signed a confidentiality agreement on behalf of their candidates.
