La Romaine Secondary remains closed due to exposed wires

The La Romaine Secondary School remains closed as teachers continue to reject an instruction from the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA) to return to school. 

A source from the OSHA Agency said several parts of the school were safe for occupation even though minor works were continuing in other sections of the school.

Documentation was submitted to the Ministry of Education but despite the official opening of the structure on Monday, teachers have not reported for duty.

Reputed drug dealer killed in La Romaine

Reputed drug dealer Gary Mc Clarence aka Lion is dead after being pursued by five men and shot over 15 times outside Superpharm in Gulf View on Thursday night.

More than 20 spent shells were recovered from the scene of the crime.

Police said around 10 pm, Gary Mc Clarence, 38, of Temple Street, La Romaine and his wife Jeanelle Mc Clarence, were sitting in their Toyota Prado in the car park of Pizza Hut Gulf View when Mc Clarence left the van and walked over to Superpharm to make a purchase. 

La Romaine man charged with shooting with intent

A La Romaine man has been denied bail and remanded into custody after appearing before a San Fernando Magistrate, charged with shooting with intent against a 21-year-old man, which occurred on Wednesday 15th November, 2017.

Marcus Forbes, 19, of Ethel Street, La Romaine, appeared before Senior Magistrate Cherril-Anne Antoine, in the San Fernando’s 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday 18th April, 2018, also charged with possession of firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of firearm to endanger life and possession of ammunition to endanger life.

Police shoot mentally-challenged man in La Romain following distress call

A 26-year-old man has been fatally shot by police after he allegedly attacked officers with a knife.

Shortly after 7 pm on Tuesday, officers of the San Fernando Police Station responded to a distress call.

Upon arrival to a home in La Romain, officers were informed that a man was allegedly physically assaulting his mother.

$15.3 million cocaine bust in La Romaine

An anti-crime exercise in the Southern Division, has resulted in the seizure of $15.3 million worth in cocaine and the arrest of four men, including a Colombian national.

Officers of the San Fernando Task Force, CID and Transnational Organised Crime Unit, conducted the exercise, coordinated by Snr Supt (Ag.), Zamsheed Mohammed, between 12 noon and 10 pm, on Tuesday 11th April, 2017, in the La Romaine area.

65-year-old woman found murdered in La Romaine home

Police are on the scene of a killing in La Romaine, in which a 65-year-old woman has been murdered.

The victim has been identified as Petra Manwaring.

She was found this morning around 10 am lying in the kitchen of her home.

Initial reports had indicated that she was stabbed to death. 

However, police say she had wounds to her head which seemed to indicate that she was hit with an object and they believe that she might also have been strangled.

She lived on the Southern Main Road, La Romaine, near to where the Paria Suites Hotel is located.

Bullet-riddled body found in La Romaine

Police are investigating the discovery of a bullet-riddled body found in La Romaine just before midnight on Thursday.

The body of a man was discovered at Dumfries Road by officers of the Court and Process Department.

It;s believed that he was killed at another location and that his body dumped in the area.

The victim was dressed in a brown jersey, a brown three-quarter pants and slippers.

Investigations are continuing.

La Romaine man is sixth Zika victim

A 37-year-old La Romaine man has become the nation's sixth Zika victim.

The Ministry of Health confirmed the latest case in a statement Tuesday morning.

"The Ministry of Health, following consultation with the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) wishes to inform the public that one additional case of the Zika virus in Trinidad has been confirmed. This brings the total number of confirmed Zika cases in Trinidad to six. There are at this time, no confirmed cases in Tobago.
