Kamla promises to create 50,000 jobs
As the Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar launched her local government election campaign, she promised to create 50,000 jobs if she is re-elected Prime Minister. Reiterating her warning that the Rowley-led Peoples National Movement (PNM) government wants to steal the elections, Persad-Bissessar said the United National Congress (UNC) will not allow it.
20 CDC workers suspended
The Chaguanas Borough Corporation has suspended home 20 workers that were hired on March 19 by the last CEO of the CBC.
One of the workers said that the suspension takes effect from Friday April 26.
T]he suspension comes after the council of the CBC demanded a report into the procedure for hiring these workers.
Councillors protested on March 19 demanding transparency into the hiring of the 20 workers stating that the council's committee to deal with employment issues was not consulted.
Six HDC procurement officers sent home
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) fired six procurement and contract assistants in order to “outsource” their jobs to a single yet unnamed consultant.
Among those dismissed is Carrie-Ann Moreau, the woman at the centre of the sexual misconduct allegations made against former sport minister Darryl Smith.
The other officers are Camille Le Gendre, Allan Gour, Lisa Sharma, Abiola Clarence and Afta Jemmot-Bharath, according to documents obtained by Guardian Media.
Duke: Judiciary protest, no political stunt
Public Service Association (PSA) president Watson Duke is calling on Judiciary workers to continue their daily protests against impending restructuring within the organisation, over the next four months.
Addressing a handful of workers, who gathered in front of the Hall of Justice in Port-of-Spain around midday on Monday, Duke called on them to gather for a short group prayer session every hour between 9 am and 2 pm.
Cabrera gets Industrial Court post
Trade union head Vincent Cabrera will now serve in the Industrial Court.
He is one of several appointments to the court's Service Divisions.
The Bankers and Insurance General Workers Union president will be a member of the General Services Division.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Achong will be retained as chairman of the essential Services Division.
Wendy Ali will also be appointed to the Essential Services Division.
Angela Hamel-Smith will be a member of the General Services Division along with Indra Rampersad suite, Elizabeth Solomon and Nizam Khan.

Courts hit hard as public servants stay off job
Hundreds of public servants working in the Judiciary have heeded the Public Service Association (PSA)'s call to stay away from work in protest of the proposed restructuring of the organisation.
The association's "Holiday for Justice" began this morning with the majority of public servants assigned to the country's three High Courts and thirteen Magistrate's Courts not showing up for duty.
Panday evicted from Rienzi office he's occupied for more than 40 years
Former prime minister Basdeo Panday has been evicted from his Rienzi Complex office.
Mr Panday said that this morning when his secretary arrived at the location, the gates were locked and she was greeted with a big sign saying the Basdeo Panday Foundation was evicted from the premises.
Mr Panday has held an office at Rienzi Complex for more than four decades.
The former prime minister told us he has contacted the police and referred the matter to them.
