A London court has jailed two men for their part in a “professional and sophisticated” enterprise that saw motorbikes stolen to order and shipped to the Caribbean.
Ellis Thomas, 33, of Charnwood Gardens, Isle of Dogs and Mario White, 47, of Severn Way, Harlesden were caught following an investigation by City of London Police.
Thomas, the kingpin of the operation, was sentenced to six years and four years for two counts of conspiracy, to be served concurrently.
A Trinidad and Tobago police officer who managed London’s historic Billingsgate Fish Market, has been jailed for two years and eight months for stealing £95,000 (approx TT$950,000) from traders’ rent to feed his gambling addiction.
Roshan Persad, 48, stole the money from the market’s landlord over an 18-month period.
The court heard that he tried to shuffle funds around the market’s accounts to hide the missing sums, logging thousands of pounds of credit notes from traders to make it seem as though they were in arrears.
