Kamla cleared in ganja probe

Op­po­si­tion Leader Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar has been cleared of any wrong­do­ing in con­nec­tion to mar­i­jua­na found on her prop­er­ty some five years ago.

Com­mis­sion­er of Po­lice Gary Grif­fith on Thurs­day an­nounced that Per­sad-Bisses­sar was not found re­spon­si­ble for the drugs on her premis­es in any way.

Grif­fith, speak­ing dur­ing the po­lice brief­ing at the Po­lice Ad­min­is­tra­tion Build­ing, Port-of-Spain re­spond­ed to ques­tions about the five-year-old case.

Granny: Teen sold weed to feed siblings

A teenag­er who ad­mit­ted to sell­ing mar­i­jua­na to main­tain his sib­lings and sick grand­moth­er was fined $1,200 yes­ter­day.

Odel Charles, 19, gave this ex­pla­na­tion when he ap­peared in the San Fer­nan­do Mag­is­trates’ Court charged with mar­i­jua­na pos­ses­sion.

His at­tor­ney Frank Git­tens, told the court the teen’s moth­er died and his fa­ther did not play a role in his life.

He was ar­rest­ed around 9 pm on Sun­day.

$14.6 million in weed destroyed in Biche

Police have destroyed marijuana trees and dried marijuana worth an estimated $14.6 million.

Officers of the Eastern Division conducted an eradication exercise in Biche on Friday when the drugs were found.

The exercise was coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Andy Belfon and included officers of the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit and the Air Support Unit.

During the exercise, officers discovered four marijuana fields on approximately nine lots of land, which contained a total of 14,300 fully grown marijuana trees.

Over $5 million in weed destroyed in Biche

Eastern Division officers have destroyed over $5 million dollars’ worth in marijuana trees and dried marijuana, during an eradication exercise in Biche on Wednesday.

The exercise included officers attached to the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit (OCIU), Eastern Division Task Force (EDTF) and the Air Support Unit.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to a forested area off the Biche Main Road, where they discovered five fields containing 5,300 fully grown marijuana trees along with 22.5 kilogrammes of dried marijuana.

Police destroy marijuana field worth $4.95m

Marijuana trees and cured marijuana worth an estimated TT$4.95 million, were found and destroyed by officers of the Eastern Division Task Force. According to police reports, officers proceeded to a forested area in Biche where they came across five fields on 10 lots of land.

The lots contained 4,700 fully grown marijuana trees, 1,000 seedlings, 25 kilogrammes of dried marijuana and 25 kilogrammes of seeds.

The trees, seeds, seedlings and dried marijuana were all subsequently destroyed.

MSJ wants moratorium on ganja charges

With April be­ing de­clared as the in­ter­na­tion­al month of cannabis, the Move­ment for So­cial Jus­tice’s youth arm is call­ing for an im­me­di­ate mora­to­ri­um on all ar­rests for pos­ses­sion of small amounts of mar­i­jua­na.

They are al­so call­ing for an ex­pung­ing of all the crim­i­nal records of peo­ple pre­vi­ous­ly charged for mar­i­jua­na pos­ses­sion.

Fishermen held with 16.5 kilos of weed

Two fishermen were arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the Southern Division Task Force and San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the La Romaine district last night.

Officers acting on information, stopped and searched a white Kia 2700 pick-up van, with two male occupants along the South Trunk Road, La Romaine, in the vicinity of Price Smart around 11:05 pm on Monday.

The search resulted in officers finding a grey container filled with ice.

Police raid nets over $2 million in weed

Marijuana worth an estimated $2 million were destroyed by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the San Juan district yesterday.

Police said in a statement that the exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. Inraj Balram and supervised by Sgt. Simeon Guelmo, also included officers of the Canine Unit and was conducted between 4 pm and 7 pm, on Wednesday 20th February, 2019.
