Port-of-Spain man charged with marijuana possession

A Port of Spain man has been arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the Debe Traffic and Highway Patrol Unit, during an anti-crime exercise, conducted in the Gasparillo district. 

Officers conducted the exercise along the northbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, in the vicinity of the Gasparillo overpass, around 9:50am on Sunday, during which they had cause to stop and search a gold coloured Mazda 6 motor vehicle with a lone male occupant.

The search resulted in one kilogramme of marijuana being discovered hidden in the vehicle.

Advocate calls on PM to suspend destruction of marijuana fields

Marijuana advocate and head of the Caribbean Collective for Justice (CCJ) Nazma Muller is calling on Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to implement an immediate suspension of marijuana arrests and a stop to the destruction of lucrative marijuana fields.

Her comments came after Rowley announced that the government will consider decriminalizing marijuana next year.

In an interview, Muller said, "We are still awaiting clarification as to exactly when Dr Rowley intends to table a motion to debate the legalisation of cannabis.

Police destroy $600,000 in marijuana

Some $600,000 worth in marijuana trees discovered in a camp in the Las Lomas district, were destroyed by officers of the Central Division Task Force, during a marijuana eradication exercise.

The exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Inraj Balram, took place around 11:30am, on Sunday 9th September, 2018.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to a forested area off Salvory Road, Las Lomas No. 1, where they discovered one marijuana field containing 1,000 fully grown marijuana trees, two hundred seedlings and a camp, which were subsequently destroyed.

$100,000 in marijuana plants found in old cocoa house

Marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of $100,000, were discovered in an old cocoa house by Eastern Division officers, during an anti-crime exercise Toco.

The exercise, supervised by Cpl. Raphael and including officers attached to the Matelot and Toco Police Stations took place between 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, on September 4th in San Souci. 

Police destroy $2.6 million in marijuana in St Joseph

Marijuana trees and cured marijuana worth an estimated $2.6 million, were destroyed by officers of the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit, during a marijuana eradication exercise conducted in the Champ Fleurs district.

The exercise, which included assistance from the St. Joseph Criminal Investigations Department and the Air Support Unit, was conducted between 9 am and 1 pm, on Monday 3rd September, 2018, in the Mt. Dor, Champ Fleurs area.

Police destroy $2 million worth of marijuana in St Joseph

Police have discovered $2 million worth of marijuana trees at a camp in the St. Joseph district.

The weed was destroyed by officers of the St. Joseph Police Station, during a marijuana eradication exercise conducted over the weekend.

The exercise, coordinated by ACP (Ag.) McDonald Jacob and spearheaded by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Michael Daniel, took place between 4 am and 10 pm, on Friday 31st August, 2018, also included officers attached to the St. Joseph Crime Patrol and Criminal Investigations Department.

Two charged with marijuana possession

Two men are due to appear before a Siparia Magistrate today, jointly charged with possession of 10.3 kilogrammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, after being arrested by officers of the South Western Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise in the Los Iros district.

Anthony Gervais, 53, a labourer of Palo Seco and Damien Charles, 32, a labourer of San Fernando, were arrested during the anti-crime exercise, which was conducted between 6 am and 9 am, on Sunday 2nd September, 2018.

Tobago woman arrested trying to take marijuana to the US

A Tobago woman has been arrested for importing marijuana from the United States of America.

According to police reports, officers of the Customs and Excise Division conducted a search on a blue plastic barrel consigned tot he 23-year-old woman where they discovered approximately 10.3 kilograms of marijuana hidden in 15 tins of black beans.

The woman was held at the Piarco International Airport and investigations are ongoing.
