MSJ wants moratorium on ganja charges

With April be­ing de­clared as the in­ter­na­tion­al month of cannabis, the Move­ment for So­cial Jus­tice’s youth arm is call­ing for an im­me­di­ate mora­to­ri­um on all ar­rests for pos­ses­sion of small amounts of mar­i­jua­na.

They are al­so call­ing for an ex­pung­ing of all the crim­i­nal records of peo­ple pre­vi­ous­ly charged for mar­i­jua­na pos­ses­sion.

Fishermen held with 16.5 kilos of weed

Two fishermen were arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the Southern Division Task Force and San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the La Romaine district last night.

Officers acting on information, stopped and searched a white Kia 2700 pick-up van, with two male occupants along the South Trunk Road, La Romaine, in the vicinity of Price Smart around 11:05 pm on Monday.

The search resulted in officers finding a grey container filled with ice.

Police raid nets over $2 million in weed

Marijuana worth an estimated $2 million were destroyed by officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the San Juan district yesterday.

Police said in a statement that the exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. Inraj Balram and supervised by Sgt. Simeon Guelmo, also included officers of the Canine Unit and was conducted between 4 pm and 7 pm, on Wednesday 20th February, 2019.

Police destroy more than $6.5 million in marijuana

Over $6.5 million worth in marijuana trees discovered in a camp in the Moruga district have been destroyed by officers of the South Western Division.

The exercise which was supervised by Sgt. Seepersad, took place on Tuesday.

The exercise included officers attached to the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit.

During the exercise, officers proceeded into hilly area off La Lune Road, Moruga, where they discovered a camp containing 6500 fully grown marijuana trees, 2500 seedlings and seven pounds of cured marijuana.

Marijuana consultation begins Jan 23

The public consultation on the decriminalisation of marijuana begins on January 23.

Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi will host the three-hour event at a venue in Port-of-Spain yet to be decided.

A statement from the Attorney General said during the months of January to March, the Office of the Attorney General will host a series of public consultations on the decriminalisation of marijuana.

Man held in HDC vehicle with marijuana

One man was arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the Special Operations Response Team (SORT), during an early morning exercise, conducted in the Central district today.

Acting on intelligence, officers intercepted a silver grey Volkswagen motor vehicle, belonging to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), with a lone male occupant, along the northbound lane of the Sir Solomon Hochoy Highway, in the vicinity of Fens Furniture store, around 7:24 am.
