Khan: T&T needs to join march towards decriminalisation of marijuana

Former Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan says Trinidad and Tobago needs to join the march towards decriminalization of marijuana, particularly for medical use.

Today, as many around the world celebrates 4-20, Dr Khan is once again pointed out the many benefits to the economy by legalizing marijuana, its medical uses and the need to desist from criminalizing young men in particular for using small amounts.

Police destroy 300 marijuana seedlings in Moruga exercise

Police have destroyed 300 marijuana seedlings that were discovered by officers of the Moruga Police Station, during a marijuana eradication exercise in the Moruga district yesterday.

The exercise, supervised by Cpl. Sydney Simon and Cpl. (Ag.) Kishore Ramsingh, took place between 8:30 am and 3 pm, on Tuesday 17th April, 2018.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to an abandoned house along Dennis Trace, Moruga, where the plants were discovered and subsequently destroyed.

No arrest was made in connection with the find.

 

Police find weed in speaker box at Scarborough gas station

A quantity of marijuana was discovered by officers of the Scarborough Criminal Investigations Department, during an anti-crime exercise, in the Scarborough district yesterday, police said Monday in a media statement.

Acting on information, the officers proceeded to a service station, located at Orange Hill Road, Scarborough, where they conducted a search around 9:30 pm on Sunday 15th April, 2018.

During the search, one black speaker box containing 17 clear packets of marijuana, weighing 7.9 kilogrammes, was found near a bin on the compound of the gas station.

Guapo man arrested with marijuana

One man was arrested and a quantity of marijuana seized by officers of the South Western Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise in the Point Fortin district.

The exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Neville Adams and supervised by Sgt. Shaeed Ali, was conducted around 10:05 pm, on Wednesday 28th March, 2018, during which the officers had cause to stop a silver AD Wagon with a lone male occupant, which was proceeding along the Cap-de-Ville main road.

Marijuana trees, seedlings worth $8.6 million destroyed

Marijuana trees with an estimated street value of $8.68Mn were destroyed by officers of the Northern Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise in the Maracas/St. Joseph district yesterday.

The exercise, spearheaded by ACP (Ag.) McDonald Jacob and Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Michael Daniel, was carried out under the supervision of ASP (Ag.) Leon Haynes, and included officers of the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit and the Air Support Unit between 6:30 am and 2 pm on Tuesday 27th March, 2018.

Police destroy marijuana trees worth $200,000

Marijuana trees with an estimated street value of $200,000, were destroyed by officers of the South Western Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise, conducted in the Los Bajos district yesterday.

The exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Neville Adams and spearheaded by Sgt. Sheldon Ablacksingh, was conducted around 11:30 am, on Monday 26th March, 2018, during which the officers proceeded to Oilfield Road, Los Bajos, where they observed a man standing along the roadway.

Upon seeing the officers, the man ran off into some nearby bushes.

Police destroy marijuana valued at over $17 million

Police have destroyed marijuana trees and cured marijuana with an estimated street value of $17.3 million.

The exercise was carried out in the Grande Riviere forest by officers of the Eastern Division Task Force, during an eradication exercise in the Grande Riviere district between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm on Wednesday.

Officers of the Southern Division Task Force have destroyed marijuana trees and cured marijuana with an estimated street value of $900,000, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Moruga district, yesterday.

The exercise, coordinated by Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Zamsheed Mohammed, supervised by Sgt. Deodath Seepersad and including officers of the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit, the Moruga Police Station and personnel from the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force, was conducted between 11 am and 4 pm on Sunday.

Arouca man arrested with ammunition, marijuana

One man was arrested and quantities of ammunition and marijuana seized, by officers of the Northern Division Task Force, during an anti-crime exercise, in the Arouca district, over the weekend.

Officers were on mobile patrol in Windy Hill, Arouca, around 5:20 pm, on Saturday, when they observed a man walking along the roadway, acting in a suspicious manner.

The man was stopped and a search conducted.

The search resulted in 30 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and 10 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, as well as 50 grammes of marijuana, being discovered in his possession.

Police destroy marijuana trees valued at $150,000

Fully grown marijuana trees with an estimated street value of $150,000, were uprooted and destroyed during an anti-crime exercise, conducted by officers of the Gasparillo Police Station in the Williamsville district, over the weekend.

The exercise, spearheaded by Insp. Subhas Ramkhelawan, supervised by Sgt. Rennie Maraj and including W/Cpl Natasha Charles, was conducted between 10:00am and 4:00pm, on Saturday 11th March, 2018.
