Grandson charged with murder of man found stuff in barrel

A Freeport man has appeared before a Couva Magistrate, charged with the murder of his grandfather, Irving Mings, whose body was found stuffed in a barrel at his home.

Michael Mings, 26, a musician, of Calcutta Road, #2 Freeport, appeared before Senior Magistrate Siumongal Ramsaran in the Couva Magistrates’ Court today to answer to the charge.

The matter was adjourned to Monday 13th November, 2017.

Mings, 87, a pensioner, also of Calcutta Road, #2 Freeport, was found dead inside a barrel at his home on Friday 6th October, 2017.

Two killed in Laventille

Two men have been killed in separate areas in Laventille. One of the victims is a 19-year-old man.

According to reports, residents of Chinnapoo were walking on the roadway around 6 this morning when they stumbled upon the body of a man. Police suspect the man was shot.

And in another part of Laventille, the body of 19-year-old Leroy Isaac was discovered with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Police say Isaac from Prizgar Lands was found dead at the back of Success Laventille.

Gasparillo man charged with drive-by murder

A Gasparillo man is expected to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate today, charged with the murder of Shackar Prince, which occurred on Sunday 17th September, 2017. 

Christopher Faiz Mohammed, 29, of Medford Avenue, Mayo Road, Gasparillo, was also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition after advice was received from the acting Director of Public Prosecutions Angelica Teelucksingh, on Wednesday 11th October, 2017. 

Three shot dead in Marabella

This country recorded its fourth triple killing for the year last evening.

Around 11 pm gunmen stormed Caribbean Vibes bar located along the Southern Main Road in Marabella and opened fire. 

Three persons were hit by bullets during the gun attack.

Two of the victims, a 63-year-old man of Marabella and a 48-year-old man of Gasparillo died on the scene. 

A third man who is yet to be identified succumbed to his injuries at the San Fernando General Hospital.

"Monster" murdered in Claxton Bay

A man who went by the nickname "Monster" has been shot and killed in Claxton Bay.

Police reports indicate that shortly after 7pm on Monday, police officers on patrol observed a motor vehicle parked along Hilltop Lane, Claxton Bay. 

Upon checking, they observed the occupant identified as Brian “Monster” Brunker in the front seat of the vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. 

He was taken to District Health Facility but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police say Brunker was well-known to them.

Wife, boyfriend appear in court for husband's murder

A Rio Claro woman and her boyfriend appeared before Senior Magistrate Gloria Jasmath, charged with the murder of her husband, Larry Garcia. 

The murder occurred on Wednesday 27th September, 2017, a police statement said.

The matter was adjourned to Monday 6th November, 2017.

Sharmellia Garcia, 28, a homemaker of Ecclesville, Rio Claro and Remueako Jarvis, 32, a labourer of Beharry Trace, Rio Claro, were charged with murder after advice was received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard, on Friday 6th October, 2017.

Wife & her boyfriend charged with husband's murder

A Rio Claro woman and her boyfriend are due to appear before a Rio Claro Magistrate today, charged with the murder of her husband, Larry Garcia, which occurred on Wednesday 27th September, 2017, a police statement said.

87-year-old kidnapped man found dead

A missing 87-year-old man who was the subject of a ransom demand has been found dead.

According to reports, Irvin Ming from Calcutta Road, Freeport, went missing on Wednesday.

Relatives reported Ming missing to the police on Wednesday night and on Thursday morning relatives received a call demanding a $10, 000 ransom.

Head of Port-of-Spain Criminal Intelligence Division, Senior Superintendent Ajith Persad locked down area this morning and after a thorough search, police discovered Ming's body stuffed into a barrel hidden under his home.
