US Embassy seeks 5 youths, mentor for 3-week exchange programme

The Unit­ed States Em­bassy in Port-of-Spain has opened ap­pli­ca­tions for the 2020 Youth Am­bas­sadors Pro­gramme.

The Em­bassy is look­ing for five stu­dents be­tween the ages 15-18 years and one adult men­tor to par­tic­i­pate in a three-week ex­change pro­gramme, Ju­ly 30 to Au­gust 16, in the Unit­ed States.

WASA service disruption in parts of South East Trinidad

The Water and Sewerage Authority advises customers in parts of South East Trinidad served by the Navet Water Treatment Plant that there would be an interruption in their pipe borne water supply tomorrow Thursday, January 30th between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 5:00 pm. This has become necessary to facilitate maintenance work at the plant.

Longdenville teen missing

The TTPS is seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating 13-year-old Cassandra Persad.

Cassandra was last seen at her Macadamia Drive, Cashew Gardens North, Longdenville, home, around 1:00 pm on January 26th.

She was reported missing to the Longdenville Police Station on the same date.

HDC to stop sewerage woes at Union Hall

Over the last two months, res­i­dents of a com­mu­ni­ty at Union Hall, Cross Cross­ing, San Fer­nan­do have been en­dur­ing the aw­ful stench of raw sew­er­age per­vad­ing their homes.

Con­cerned about their health and well be­ing, res­i­dents have had enough and are call­ing for im­me­di­ate ac­tion.

Major 7.7 earthquake hits north of Jamaica

A major magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck north of Jamaica, triggering tsunami waves in the Western Caribbean. 

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has sent an alert stating that hazardous tsunami waves are possible for coasts of Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Honduras, Belize and Mexico.

The first waves are forecast to affect Jamaica at 3:20 PM Jamaica time, 4:20 PM T&T local time, with heights between 0.3 and 1.0 metre. 

Damage has been reported across the Cayman Islands and western Jamaica, with no reports of fatalities at this time.

Two injured as truck overturns

Two men have been in­jured as a re­sult of an over­turned truck along the South­ern Main Road near Pranz Gar­dens, Clax­ton Bay.

Fire of­fi­cials have blocked off the South­ern Main Road since 11:00 AM as the over­turned truck was car­ry­ing com­pressed oxy­gen and spilled diesel across the road­way.
