Commuters suffer as Sando taxi drivers protest

Pres­i­dent of the T&T Taxi Dri­vers’ Net­work Adri­an Acos­ta says un­less San Fer­nan­do May­or Ju­nia Re­grel­lo re­scinds his or­der to re­lo­cate the San Fer­nan­do to Port-of-Spain and San Fer­nan­do to Ch­agua­nas taxi hubs to King’s Wharf, to­day's protest will be the start of more to come.

Sev­er­al com­muters used al­ter­na­tive trans­port or paid ex­tra to trav­el from San Fer­nan­do to Ch­agua­nas when taxi dri­vers op­er­at­ing the route shut down in protest.

The deplorable state of Caroni Visitor Centre

The wa­ter sup­ply for the state-owned Ca­roni Vis­i­tor Cen­tre, lo­cat­ed at one of this coun­try’s largest tourist at­trac­tions the Ca­roni Bird Sanc­tu­ary, has been cut by the Wa­ter and Sew­er­age Au­thor­i­ty (WASA) for non-pay­ment of ar­rears.

Guardian Me­dia was told the out­stand­ing bill for the fa­cil­i­ty has crossed $.5mil­lion and its sup­ply was cut in Oc­to­ber 2018.

CDA to send home 68 workers

Six­ty-eight em­ploy­ees of the Ch­aguara­mas De­vel­op­ment Au­thor­i­ty (CDA) will be sent home in the com­ing weeks as the au­thor­i­ty seeks to re­duce its ex­pen­di­ture and tack­le its $88 mil­lion debt.

In a re­lease yes­ter­day, the au­thor­i­ty said the salaries of its cur­rent staff of 200 ac­counts for 72 per cent of its in­come—twice what it was in 2010.

Manzanilla woman missing

The TTPS is seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating 64-year-old Maureen Safe.

Maureen, of North Manzanilla, was last seen boarding a taxi on Henderson Street, Sangre Grande, at around 10:15 am on August 9th.

She was reported missing to the Sangre Grande Police Station, by a relative on the same date.

Maureen is of African descent, with short grey hair, has a scar on one of her shoulders and was last seen wearing a green and black dress and a pair of brown slippers.

Point Fortin man missing

The TTPS  is seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating 45-year-old Neverson Paul.

Neverson, of Parrylands Village, Point Fortin, was last seen leaving his home on August 10th.

He was reported missing to police on the following date.

Neverson is of African descent, 6 feet tall, medium built, with a dark brown complexion, and dreadlocks.

He was last seen wearing a pair of brown short pants and a green t-shirt. Neverson has also been diagnosed as mentally ill.

Ministry: Desist from undermining drainage work

The Min­istry of Works and Trans­port (MOWT) said it has not­ed with much con­cern sev­er­al in­ci­dents of theft and van­dal­ism to riv­er em­bank­ments across the coun­try.

In a state­ment yes­ter­day, the min­istry said this un­law­ful prac­tice not on­ly un­der­mines the Drainage Di­vi­sion’s ef­forts to mit­i­gate flood­ing but al­so pos­es a po­ten­tial threat to lives and prop­er­ty across com­mu­ni­ties in T&T.
