Njisane Phillip calls it a day

Cyclist Njisane Phillip is calling it a day on his career.

Phillip did not advance in the cycling sprint event on Friday despite having one of the fastest times in his opening sprint.

Phillip spoke to CNC3's Robert Dumas in Rio Friday evening where he confirmed that he is retiring from cycling.

Njisane Philip does not advance

Cyclist Njisane Philip has not advanced to the Round of 16 in the Cycling Sprint event.

Philip had a second shot in the Repechage race after losing to Xu Chao in the Round of 32.

However, he placed third behind Edward Dawkins of New Zealand and Maximilian Levy of Germany.

Levy eventually won to go through to the Round of 16 on Saturday morning.

Njisane Phillip loses in Round of 32 but has another shot in Repechage rounds

Njisane Phillip has will go to the Repechage rounds in an attempt to qualify for the Round of 16 of the Cycling Sprint after losing to Xu Chao of China in the Round of 32.

Phillip qualified for the Round of 32 with a speedy 9.813 in the opening races, the 6th fastest time of the day.

The Repechage races take place later today.
