The Parliament will meet in an extraordinary session next week to debate a motion to annul the recent changes made to Value Added Tax.
The motion is to be presented by Tabaquite Member of Parliament Dr Suruj Rambachan.
A statement from the Parliament reads:
"In accordance with Standing Order 13(3) of the House of Representatives, there will be an Extraordinary Sitting of the House of Representatives to be held on Tuesday March 8, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.
President Anthony Carmona, on the advice of Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has appointed former Tourism Minister Gerald Hadeed as a Senator to fill the void left by the resignation of Senator Vasant Bharath.
Bharath resigned as a senator on November 11th after declaring his intention to run for the post of political leader of the UNC, in the Internal Elections won by Kamla-Persad-Bissessar on Saturday.
Hadeed was sworn in following an announcement by Senate President Christine Kangaloo just before the Senate broke for lunch today.
UNC Senator Vasant Bharath has resigned as a UNC Senator with immediate effect, citing his decision to run for the post of political leader of the UNC in the December 5th internal elections.
Bharath's announcement comes via a letter he has written to Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in which he told Persad-Bissessar that it would be inappropriate for him to continue in that position at this time.

"Dear Mrs Persad-Bissessar,
Chaguanas West MP Ganga Singh has been appointed Opposition Chief Whip, replacing Dr Roodal Moonilal who resigned from the post to contest the leadership post in the upcoming UNC Internal Election.
The announcement was made today by the Office of the Leader of the Opposition.

"The Leader of the Opposition today informed the Clerk of the House of Representatives that Mr. Ganga Singh, MP for Chaguanas West has been appointed to serve as Opposition Chief Whip.
