Another protest over conditions at Edinburgh Government Primary

Parents and teachers of the Edinburgh Government Primary School are expected to stage a protest in-front of the school, today, with support from the Oilfields Workers Trade Union.

Guardian Media understands that since the school reopened in September, several students have fallen ill with rashes, respiratory problems, severe itching and asthma attacks.

And last Wednesday, a teacher was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility after she collapsed at the school, moments after complaining about feeling nauseous and dizzy.

OWTU: “Injunction against Refinery deal was political…”

THE Oilfields Workers Trade Union (OWTU) is calling the injunction to block the sale of the Petrotrin Refinery a political move.

This after the United National Congress (UNC) distanced itself from any legal action with respect to the sale of the refinery.

Education and Research Officer of the OWTU, Ozzie Warwick, told Guardian Media that members of the UNC—namely Oropouche East MP, Dr Roodal Moonilal—lied on the union in the Parliament.

He says they are taking that very seriously.

CEO of Sunstone Equity John Van Dyke yesterday slammed Opposition MP Dr Roodal Moonilal for spreading fake news ‘like US President Donald Trump’ and being a ‘petty politician’ as the country approaches the December 2 local government election.

The MSJ leader says he will be consulting his attorneys and exploring all his legal options in the matter.

Moonilal questions Petrotrin purchase

Oropouche East MP Roodal Moonilal wants to know if there is third party manipulation of the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union’s (OWTU) recent acquisition of the Pointe-a-Pierre oil refinery.

In his contribution to the Budget debate yesterday, the Opposition MP raised questions about who facilitated a meeting between CEO of Sunstone Equities John Van Dyke and members of the union.

The announcement was made by Finance Minister Colm Imbert in Parliament.

While Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said that an average of $.5 million was paid as severance to each Petrotrin worker when the company was shut down, the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) has accused him of distorting figures.
