Health Minister: “We’re taking no chances with new coronavirus…”

If you are travelling to this country from the United States or the Asian continent, then prepare to be screened.

Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, has confirmed that screening has begun at the Piarco International Airport and the ANR Robinson International Airport as the first line of defence against the deadly coronavirus—2019 NCOV—which first presented in Wuhan, China.

Health ministry to tackle gestational diabetes in 2020

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has pledged to tackle the issue of gestational diabetes in 2020.

On Christmas Day, Minister Deyalsingh stated this is one of several major projects they’ll focus on next year.

The minister says it is one of the most important interventions they intend to undertake, in order to deal with diabetes in this country.  He notes that in the case of many women with gestational diabetes, their children could develop type-one diabetes.

PAHO/WHO urges southern hemisphere countries to prepare for heatwaves

the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) is urging countries in the Region to be prepared for more heatwaves during 2020.

In an official statement, PAHO observes that 2019 came at the end of a decade of extreme heat, noting that 24 countries in the Region have activated alerts due to heatwaves. According to PAHO, forecasts expect these to continue in South America between December and March 2020, with possible adverse impact on human health.
