The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service continues its crackdown on illegal weapons in this country.
In two separate anti-crime exercises yesterday, officers arrested two people, each of whom were caught with a pistol and ammunition.
During an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Diego Martin district yesterday, officers of the West End Police Station arrested A teenager and seized a pistol and one round of ammunition.
A 22-year-old man is expected to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court today, to answer charges of firearm possession, and shooting with intent.
The suspect was arrested following a robbery in Charlieville on December 15th.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly shot at officers of the Central Division Task Force while they responded to a report of a robbery.
The officers had returned fire, killing one man at the scene.
The 22-year-old suspect was held at the scene, while two other suspects made good their escape.
Police officers were able to recover a stolen vehicle and arrest two men from Laventille, on Tuesday, whilst on patrol.
According to a police report, shortly before 10 pm on Tuesday, members of the Inter Agency Task Force were on patrol along Kerr Road, Laventille, when they observed a silver Nissan Tiida carrying licence plates matching the description of a car that was reported stolen on Monday in east Port of Spain.
The officers stopped the car and searched it and found a .380 automatic pistol and four rounds of ammunition.
Officers who responded to a fight along Independence Square South in Port of Spain on Monday morning ended up recovering a loaded gun in a vehicle after a brief chase.
According to a police report, at about 7 am, a team of officers from the Emergency Response Patrol—including Cpl Moore, WPC Orr, PCs Murray, Pierre and Bramble—were on mobile patrol when they received information from a passerby, who claimed there was a fight on Independence Square South.
Police were told that the suspect was the driver of a red Elantra.
One man was arrested and a pistol and a quantity of ammunition seized by officers of the Cunupia Police Station, during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the district last night.
During the exercise, on Monday October 14th, officers executed a search warrant at the Raghunanan Road, Cunupia home of a 32-year-old man.
The search resulted in officers finding one black and chrome Beretta pistol, two magazines and 23 rounds of ammunition in the house.
The suspect, who was in the house at the time of the exercise, was arrested in connection with the find.
One man is in police custody after being held with a firearm and a quantity of marijuana.
According to police reports, officers of the Crime Suppression Unit were conducting an exercise in the Brazil Village district yesterday, when they observed a man acting suspiciously.
Upon seeing the officers, the man threw a blue bag into some nearby bushes and ran off.
The man was apprehended a short distance away and a search of the area resulted in the discovery of a loaded pistol and 700 grammes of marijuana.
Investigations are ongoing.

The exercise, spearheaded by Snr. Supt. Surrendra Sagramsingh and supervised by Sgt. Simeon Guelmo and Cpl (Ag.) Jason Lavia, was conducted on Thursday 11th October, 2018, during which officers proceeded to Second Street, San Juan, and conducted a search of an empty lot of land.

Around 6:50pm, officers proceeded to an empty parcel of land, located at the corner of Halls Lane and Pelican Extension Road, Morvant, where a search was conducted.

There, they discovered a Glock pistol loaded with one magazine containing two rounds of 9mm ammunition. Investigations are continuing.

Acting on information, officers proceeded to a dirt track off Third Street, Bhagan Trace Extension, Perseverance Road, around 6:50 pm on Monday 11th June, 2018, where a search was conducted.
There, they discovered a black and chrome Glock pistol loaded with a magazine containing 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition hidden inside a plastic bag.
No arrest was made in connection with the find.
