Around the World: Russian helicopter crash kills 18

Russia's emergencies ministry said the MI-8 went down at 10:20 local time.
All those on board were killed. 
The helicopter was reportedly taking workers to an oil station.
 A criminal investigation is underway.
Initial assessments have suggested that the aircraft's blades struck cargo being carried by another helicopter just after take-off. 
The second helicopter was able to land safely.
The Russian Transport Ministry said the incident happened in "normal" weather conditions.

 

Update on Cuba plane crash: More than 100 killed, three survivors critical

More than 100 people were killed when a Cubana de Aviacion Boeing 737-200 crashed on takeoff from Havana's Jose Marti International Airport.

Three passengers were in critical condition after surviving the crash, state-run media reported.

The plane, a Boeing 737-200 leased by state airline Cubana de Aviacion from a small Mexican carrier and operated by a Mexican crew, went down in a field within a couple of miles of Havana’s José Martí International Airport.

Regional: Passenger plane crashes in Cuba with 104 on board

A Boeing 737 operated by state airline Cubana has crashed on takeoff from Jose Marti International Airport in Havana with 104 passengers on board, according to Cuban state media.

There's no immediate word on casualties.

State television and websites said the plane was headed to the eastern city of Holguin and crashed between the airport in southern Havana and the nearby town of Santiago de las Vegas.
