Bail for cop on sex charges

Sus­pend­ed po­lice of­fi­cer Akeem James has been grant­ed $200,000 bail on charges of rape, griev­ous sex­u­al as­sault and false im­pris­on­ment of a 29-year-old Venezue­lan woman.

James, 28, a spe­cial re­serve po­lice of­fi­cer with six years of ser­vice, was ini­tial­ly de­nied bail on June 26. How­ev­er, when he reap­peared in court be­fore Se­nior Mag­is­trate Rae Roopc­hand, he was grant­ed bail and or­dered to re­port twice a week at the po­lice sta­tion. He was al­so warned to stay away from and have no con­tact with the vic­tim.

Court orders retroactive promotion for woman police officer

A High Court judge has ordered that a woman police officer be promoted to the rank of sergeant with retroactive effect for three years after ruling that she was treated unfairly. 

Justice James Aboud also granted a declaration that Commissioner of Police breached Regulation 156 of the Police Service Regulations and illegally bypassed officer Nina Rawlins for promotion. 

Rawlins, attached to the Couva Police Station, filed for judicial review in 2017 after she wrote and passed the promotion examination but she was not promoted.

The Spe­cial Re­serve Po­lice­man (SRP), who is at­tached to the Guard Unit at River­side, Port-of-Spain, is ex­pect­ed to ap­pear in court to­day to face charges of rape and se­ri­ous in­de­cen­cy.

Police officer dies two days after setting himself on fire

Two days after he set himself on fire, SRP Gary Alexander has died.

Alexander, 62, of Jebodhsingh Trace, Fyzabad died during the early hours of Tuesday morning having sustained second degree burns to 90 per cent of his body.

During an interview yesterday, his daughter Shanice Alexander, 25, said they were awaiting the arrival of relatives from abroad before organizing Alexander's funeral.

Police officer shot in stomach by colleague

A female police officer was shot by her colleague who was cleaning his firearm at the station this morning.

The officer was shot in the stomach.

The incident occurred at around 9 a.m. at the San Juan police station.

The injured female officer was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Centre where she is undergoing emergency medical treatment.

A similar incident occurred at the Guapo police station in 2015.

In that incident special reserve police officer, Govindra Ramroop died.

35 year old man appears in court for shooting at off duty police officers

Kerwin Wilson appeared in the Scarborough Magistrates Court today for shooting with intent at two off-duty police officers on August 30th, 2017. The following is a statement by the TTPS:

A 35-year-old Calder Hall man, who shot at two off-duty police officers, in Lambeau, Tobago, on August 30th, 2017, appeared before a Scarborough Magistrate on Friday 8th September, 2017, after being arrested and charged with shooting with intent. 

Acting Commissioner mourns death of young officer

Acting Police Commissioner, Stephen Williams, has expressed sadness over the death of, No.19714 PC Shaquille Mondesir, of the Southern Division Task Force.

A statement by the Police Service says the Commissioner has also conveyed condolences to the relatives of the late officer. PC Mondesir, 22, who died following a vehicular accident along the west-bound lane of the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, in the vicinity of Lifestyle Motors, El Socorro, at around 12:15 am today.

Police officer killed in accident

An early morning accident has claimed the life of a 21-year-old police officer while his colleague is at hospital fighting for his life.

Constable Shaquille Mondesir died on the spot when the Nissa Tiida in which he was travelling lost control near the Courts Megastore in Barataria around 1 am.

His colleague Constable Dayne Horseford was badly injured and is warded in a critical condition at the Eric Willims Medical Sciences Complex.

Police say their vehicle hit a concrete slab before spinning out of control.

Police officer critical following accident

An officer is now warded in a critical condition at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a red band maxi taxi along the Priority Bus Route, in the vicinity of Constantine Park, Tunapuna.

A police statement says the accident involving, No. 7609 PC Jasanie Davis, who is attached to the Court and Process Branch, Port of Spain, occurred at around 1:00pm today Tuesday 28th March, 2017.

The driver escaped with minor injuries.
