Family of cops acquitted of assault charge - again

Three po­lice of­fi­cers have freed of a charge of as­sault oc­ca­sion­ing ac­tu­al bod­i­ly harm against them in the San­gre Grande Mag­is­trates’ Court.

Po­lice cor­po­ral Ramesh­war Gopaul, con­sta­ble Anil Gopaul and WPC Tia Gopaul, who are all at­tached to East­ern Di­vi­sion, were charged with the of­fence by In­spec­tor Ken Lutch­man, head of San­gre Grande CID.

They were ac­cused of beat­ing busi­ness­man David Ram­per­sad, of Ve­ga de Oropouche, when he went to col­lect his rent.

200 more patrol motorbikes for cops

The Po­lice Ser­vice will re­ceive a boost of an ad­di­tion­al 200 pa­trol mo­tor­bikes.

This was made pos­si­ble as Na­tion­al Se­cu­ri­ty Min­is­ter Stu­art Young signed a pro­to­col on be­half of the Gov­ern­ment giv­ing ef­fect to the pro­vi­sion of Gratis Aid to T&T by the Peo­ple’s Re­pub­lic of Chi­na.

Sign­ing the pro­to­col on be­half of the Peo­ple’s Re­pub­lic of Chi­na was Am­bas­sador Ex­tra­or­di­nary and Plenipo­ten­tiary of the Peo­ple's Re­pub­lic of Chi­na to the Re­pub­lic of T&T Song Yu­min.

Police officer held for common assault and obstructing justice

PC Angelo Cedeno, 40, attached to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), is currently in police custody after being charged with two counts of common assault and obstruction of justice. 

Cedeno, 40, was arrested and charged today at the IATF Base, following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC. 

According to police reports the charges arose from separate incidents which occurred between December 2017 and November 2018.

St. Ann's man missing

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is seeking the urgent assistance of the public in locating 41-year-old Jason Nunes. 

Jason was last seen at his home at #25A Fondes Amandes Road, St Anns, around 9:00 am on November 29th.

 He was reported missing to the Belmont Police Station at around 11:32 pm on November 30th. 

Jason is of mixed descent, light brown in complexion, medium built 6 feet 1 inch tall with a close cut hairstyle black in colour, short beard and mustache.

Penal man awarded $75,000 for police beating

A Pe­nal man has been award­ed $75,000 af­ter a High Court judge ruled that po­lice had un­law­ful­ly ar­rest­ed and beat the man, lead­ing to him los­ing sight in his left eye.

Jus­tice Frank Seep­er­sad ruled in favour of Nicholas Guer­ra. The judge dis­missed the claims by of­fi­cers that the in­juries Guer­ra suf­fered were as a re­sult of them at­tempt­ing to dis­arm him at the A&R Bar in Pe­nal on June 13, 2013.

TTMA commends Commissioner

The Trinidad and Tobago Manufacturers’ Association (TTMA) is commending Commissioner of Police Gary Griffith on the progress made in policing across the country since his appointment in August of this year. 

The TTMA says it notes "the many positive outcomes of the operations, which Commissioner Griffith has spearheaded within recent times, inclusive of major drug busts and apprehension of kidnappers".
